Pub Sign Photo Study – The Kippax – Miles Platting, Manchester

I generally dislike sports themed pubs, and this one is making clear its support for Manchester City Football Club, with its new stadium quite close to the bar. The Kippax was the name of one of the main spectator areas at the team’s previous Main Road Fallowfield stadium. I do appreciate the sign including the well-known previous name of the pub, The Gibraltar. The bar is understandably busy on days when City are playing at home. Arthur Chappell

I think it is good that some pubs support the teams and it certainly can't hurt business. I don't like them much either. They are too noisy for me.

Very much so - it is just the noise and loud TV footage on big screens that isn't for me - they are friendly enough as fans of rival teams won't tend to go in them

@celticeagle yes, I never actually see trouble in such bars when I have ended up in one

@TiarasOceanView it is an odd image - if he has already kicked the ball he is quite slow lowering his leg again.

I hate going in to any bars and usually avoid them if I possibly can.

I give sporty type bars a wide berth and pubs which boost big screens on match days

very much my thinking too. They get loud and rowdy, especially if the home team loses. Even if I cared for the games I'd watch from home

@arthurchappell I don't follow any sport, well except a bit of cycling. Even then I haven't watched it all the way through

That is the equivalent of an American sports bar. You are right, at least a nod to the previous name.
