Dead Dogs Must be Tied Down

While we were in our home town of Narrogin recently, my brother told me that there is a new policewoman in town who is making life tough for everyone. There are no warnings for first offences. Every misdemeanour is charged at the maximum penalty.
One of the things causing an uproar is a new law regarding safety issues. I sometimes think there must be a little group of people thinking up new laws in this area. Farmers in particular are up in arms because anything carried in the back of a trailer or utility (truck to Americans) must be tied down, not just with ropes but with what we know as ocky straps. This is difficult to do in some cases such as tying down a tool-box in a modern-day utility which has no provision for attaching straps.
But what has the locals up in arms is the farmer who took his dog to the vet to have it put down. He laid it in the back of his vehicle to take it home to bury but was intercepted by this police-woman and charged a substantial amount for not having it tied down. It is important that laws be obeyed but this does seem a bit drastic and draconian. What do you think?

Is this woman local? Or maybe just loco?
Sounds like one of those that got picked on as a kid and decided they were going to get even with society for it, or on a one-man (woman) crusade to wipe out crime as they know it.
I guess, if she wants to be technical, it was a 'load', and if the law requires it tied down, then...
Still, I think maybe she just needs some sense slapped into her, because she doesn't seem to have much.
Not that I am advocating violence...or at least not a lot of it...

She is not local and she must be loco. Technically she is correct but she is creating a lot of dissension both for the police force and herself. Years ago, there was a traffic cop who was eventually transferred but in the next town he eventually found himself dumped in the river. Some people really like to make things difficult for themselves.

True but it was in the well part so had 2 foot walls all round. There was no way it could fly out. The border collie is Rosie, a friend's dog. She was chase sticks but not give them back, just collect as many as she could in her mouth.

@JudyEv It's ridiculous when those in charge take the laws a bit too literally. What is the true motivation to get so nit-picky on the people like this . . . she might get brownie points for her job, but she won't win over the people.

Try doing that in the remote provinces of the Philippines and it's most likely than not you will suffer a worst fate than the dog,

@JudyEv What I meant was if there is somebody here especially in far flung hinterlands that "who is making life tough for everyone." would suffer a fate somewhat similar to the dog about to be put down.Sorry but there are simply some places here where rule of law does not exist or where kangaroo courts exists where poor farmers could run for help especially if the person in question is authority but in a way abusive.

@louievill We used to have 'kangaroo courts' here too but not quite so much now. But if this woman gets too officious, there may be repercussions in some way. Are you from Australia originally?

First off let me say that is totally crazy. The poor main has enough to be upset about. Secondly, anyone who transports a dog in the back of a truck - tied or not - should be put to sleep.

@sugartoes Maybe Judy should find out the answer to this?

@sugartoes If you read what I said I made a 'second' point about live dogs in trucks.

@AbbyGreenhill We used to see this but now dogs mainly seem hitched short to the front railing - if there is one. Many now have cages too and the dogs travel in those on the back. That would seem safer but the cage would need to be anchored somehow.

I think she is the worst type of police person for a small town.

You can get weird coppers in small country towns. Seems they don't fit well in other places. We've had some weird ones here in my 10 years and one very nice couple. The guy we have now is about 5' 2" and is only rarely around and won't do anything when he is.

Do you have a lot of crime? If he is there on his own and so short, he might find it a bit intimidating - no excuse for not doing his job of course, just sayin....

There isn't much commonsense at the moment, is there?

that was pretty tacky of her, for sure. I guess if you have a truck use straps no matter what.

This is a relatively new law. Anything being transported has to be tied down.

It wouldn't have hurt to give a warning, would it? It's not as if the dog is suddenly going to get out.

Sounds as though she feels the need to prove something.

I hope so too. She is certainly not making herself any friends in the town at the moment.

I think that woman need to go back to school and learn common sense. It will only take a few irate neighbors in the town to get that done... I hope your brother will help the process get going.
