I Wanted to Make This

I saw this Easter door hanging on Facebook last week. I wanted to make one. They called it a wreath, but I do not, I call it a cross.'' When I went to Hobby Lobby the other day, I was looking for this kind of dried botanical, but instead I bought the eucalyptus. I had found a bundle of this, it was called Prairie Grass. It was going to cost at least ten dollars. The little cheapskate that I am could not buy tend dollars worth of dry prairie grass, when I could just walk across the street to a vacant field with a variety of grasses. Sure enough, I found just the right thing. In my earlier discussion I said I was going outside. I did. I walked around the field and when I saw this clump of grass, I cut it, so that i could make my craft. I used an old weathered piece of cord to tie the pieces together and make a hanging loop on back. Leather strips would have worked as well. Online they decorated it with a bunch of lilies in the middle. I do not have any as they used silk flowers. Give me a day, though. I may come up with a recycled item that will work just fine. My rustic cross door hanger was one of my projects for today.

That is really effective. I'm glad you were able to find some genuine grass to use.

I would love to have some dried palm fronds to use. I have a small cross I received made from a small palm leaf.

This is one I have done so far. I also have in mind to use some twigs from my back yard to do similar. I just had a glimpse of the one online. I am not sure if it was in a blog or on FB.

This is the one I did for one front door. I have two front entrances. I kind of like the rustic look of it. I know a lot of people collect crosses. I forgot to get the picture until it was dark outside.

I may use some twigs from a tree to do another one. It is very satisfying to use what is around you.

My project for the day was to sandwich the layers of the quilt I am finishing for my mother. My husband made it possible to set up the big frame, so that should speed up the quilting process. The picture shows it laid out on the floor, ready for pin basting.
