I turned the news on this morning and learned of the latest Daesh atrocity, this time is Brussels, Belgium. On my way home I heard the death count was up to 30. I don't know if that includes the two pieces of human trash who blew themselves up. What I am having a hard time understanding is how, considering the intensity of the search for just such culprits taking place in Brussels and throughout Belgium over the last 4 months since the Paris attacks the preparations for this attack went completely unnoticed. One BBC reporter speculated it may be because Brussels has 6 different police departments and they don't communicate well with one another. Will this latest attack in Europe lead to stronger measures against Daesh on the ground in Syria and Iraq? Will it lead to more Islamophobia in Europe and the US? I haven't heard yet, but I'm sure Candidate Trump will use this to rally the xenophobes and racists among his followers against Muslims at home and abroad. What do you think will happen now in the wake of this latest attack by these spawn of Satan who follow Daesh?

Trump has been all over the news with this one. So has Ted Cruz, who believes that the police should start closely patrolling "Muslim neighborhoods." The Muslims in California live all over the place ... from Beverly Hills to Watts. Does Ted Cruz want to move them all into ghettos, like the Germans did to the Jews before World War II? Sure sounds like it. Scary.

Mr Trump has been leading the call to identify and track the Muslims living in the US and to keep all those overseas out. Now Ted Cruz must see how it gets Trump votes from the xenophobic, racist right (white) wing of the party and he wants to cut into that. None of those steps will curb the violence. Only destroying Daesh where they are in Iraq and Syria will help end this war.

@DeborahDiane The difficulty with assimilation is the radical differences in culture. There is virtually nothing about the the Muslim faith that is complimentary to the American way of life.

@DWDavis - I agree with you 100%. We also need to assimilate Muslims into our communities, especially the young men.

At this point in time they must be planning on yet another attack elsewhere. It is sad that their activities go unnoticed. Trump could be right after all.

I think they are very hard to combat since they are blending so well into their communities.

@DWDavis Quite true. I really don't know any Muslims there are none who live around us but I certainly don't judge people by their religion and would love to be inclusive.

@BelleStarr I have had several Muslim students over recent years and they have all been well behaved and respectful children who worked hard on their studies. I got along well with their families and still keep up with one young man whom I taught in sixth grade two years ago. He still rushes to show me his progress report or to let me know when he does well on a test.

To combat this, we, non-Muslims, need to make positive connections withing the Muslim community. We can do this by showing respect for their traditions and culture. Offering respect is not the same thing as submitting to the tenets of the religion. If they feel welcome and accepted, despite the differences, the Muslim community might be more willing to help find and apprehend the terrorists in their midst.

The wounded people are 230 and most of them have lost their legs or arms, due to the way those terrorists have made their bombs, full of nails and glass shards to hurt more. No matter the actions the government will take, the terrorists are already in all the European cities, it's too late for everything.

We have to keep hunting them down and we have to convince the Muslim community to turn them over to authorities. Muslims who know where the terrorists are and say nothing are as guilty as the bombers.

@LadyDuck In these times, the authorities need to err on the side of security and hold or deport those who come to their attention from other governments. I know this is a slippery slope away from personal liberty but with things the way they are, Middle Eastern men of that age group and inclination who are identified as suspects by government agents or intelligence agencies need to be monitored a lot more closely than they are now.

@DWDavis The European authorities know where they are. I remember very well where those guys lived, in the outskirts of the big cities. One of the two killers of Brussels had been arrested on info given my Turkish authorities, but then released because they thought he was not dangerous. What a big mistake.

It is very sad but how they go about stopping these events happening I have no idea. It seems to be beyond any police or espionage department.

Unless we can change the mindset of the people who are going over to Daesh, I don't know what can solve the problem other than exterminating the source.

This attack was horrific. I am sure those who wish to use this for their political gain will do so and yes, more sheep will follow. My deep compassion for the innocents. I abhor the minions of the Daesh.

My youngest son just came back from Europe and his girlfriend is still there. He's supposed to go back this summer for an internship. I am very concerned about what could happen next.
