Do You Mind?

The Sunshine State isn't always sunny in case you didn't know. The last five weeks of straight sunshine will be gone for the next few days.
We are having rain and thunderstorms, which I love. They are so different from those up north.
I don't mind one bit. It gives me a chance to relax, do laundry, and spend luscious time reading. I love watching the cloud formations, the tides, and the palms in the breeze.
Since they forecast the rains to begin again around 3:00 PM, my hubby can antique shop and later take me out to lunch.
Do you mind rain and thunderstorms?

Rain yes, I don't like rain, it's too wet
I prefer snow, you don't get wet. However, I LOVE thunderstorms. I know you can't have thunderstorms without rain, but it would be nice if you could. As a kid I used to go outside and dance in the rain in my swimsuit.

I love thunderstorms. My best sleep is when the storms happen at night. During the day I am okay with them as long as I don't have to venture outside.
One day I recall a terrible storm, thunder and lightning and heavy winds. A client wanted me to go to the store. I refused.

@DianneN I get freaked out when I am driving and get caught in such a storm. There are also the idiots who drive like it is normal weather and I fear an accident.

I prefer to be home during a nasty storm like that, too. Last year, we had plans to visit friends an hour away in FL. We ventured out onto the highway. It was so bad, that we couldn't see the cars five feet ahead of us, and there was nowhere to pull over. So, we crept along at 5 miles an hour until it passed. I have never seen such torrential rains, not even during a monsoon in Hong Kong, in which we were caught.

I don't mind them if we need the rain, but if we don't need it, then I don't like it, and want lots of sunshine. We have had a lot of rain in my area since the first of the year, so I will be glad when the sun comes out and stays out. We are cloudy and a little rainy again today. We sure haven't seen the sun mych lately, but probably for summer, we will have lots of sunny days, and lots of heat.

@DianneN It sure has been here, as we have had way to much since the beginning of the year, and even before that actually. Right now, though, it is parlty sunny, so at least it isn't raining, and that is a good thing. I had to put stuff on the grass to get rid of the moss. I am hoping that it will get rid of it, as i don't want it killing the grass.

@mom210 ours covers certain important things in the house such as well water, lights in certain rooms, heat, air conditioning, refrigerator, the main TV, and phones. I think my computer is on it, but can't remember. We have a gas stovetop and the barbecue if necessary. We lost power here in the condo a few days ago for only 15 minutes, but it was awful!

I live in Florida. Right now I am wearing a jacket and am wrapped in a blanket but still freezing. Yesterday, it was 80 degrees. Last night, I thought my place was going to blow away, kept hearing thumping noises from the wind. Lightning flashed, thunder roared, and the rain was coming from all directions. It is pouring rain right now.

@akalinus This is our winter condo. We are snowbirds from CT four months of the year. I worried about hurricanes here, but this old building has withstood them all. The hurricanes in CT have caused more destruction. We will leave this paradise next Friday. Sniff. Sniff.

We don't have rain often enough to mind having it, but thunder and lightening I find annoying, since I have to unplug everything electronic. Our wires are all underground. A lightning strike could fry things.

@DianneN Ha Ha. That would be one way to get it. I once lost lots of things in my house when there was a ground strike. it blew out the surge protector and fried many circuits. The heater went on full blast (in August) and cooked all of my house plante, melted all candles, but luckily did not start a fire.

If it's thundering and lightening out I am usually standing on my porch trying to get a shot of the lightening and listening to the thunder. I love it.

@DianneN Yup that is where I draw the line. You couldn't pay me enough to stay on the water during a lightening storm.

@DianneN yes... crops are starting to really dry out. esp. the small streams. the rivers are kind of shallow too. Not enough water means not enough force to drive the turbines in the hydropower plants. That's why we have power interruptions. A simple rain does make a big difference

I do not mind some rain in my neck of the woods in Southwest Louisiana as long as it not does flood in Lake Charles. The grass could use some water during the spring before the summer heat comes.

@DianneN The thunderstorm that hit the Louisiana and Texas border recently was just awful to see the rivers overflowing into the cities north of Lake Charles.

I too like rains. They begin around June in India. Looks like you have beaten us to the rains by three full months. Well done Sunshine State!
