Yesterday - my boyfriend and I spent a few hours and shopped a couple stores for a new electric dryer. Reason being - the one at his place is broken! To match his front load washer, we wanted a front load style dryer but they're newer styles/technology, and I guess they only provide a 1 year warranty with an option to buy extended warranty too if you'd like.
But we opt for the old fashion - regular dryer mainly because this dryer offers a 1 year warranty along with a 10 year limited parts warranty for the drum and motor.
By shopping in stores, seeing the actual product then I took a photo of the model number to compare prices and ultimately check which place offers the better deal!
Home Depot in stores: $498
Home Depot online: $458
Best Buy: $479.99
Sears: $448.20
Lowes: $449
The funny thing is we shopped at Home Depot and in stores it was $498! (Not including tax or the plugs/hardware) And, their website was selling the exact same model for cheaper at $458!
Ultimately, I found a better deal at Sears because I had a $15 off rewards coupon and even after purchasing - I get $15 back so it is a win/win situation.
Overall: It is worth to spend a little time researching your best value! We saved $50 by going with Sears and will be getting $15 back too! I also went through eBates and should be getting 3% back of my purchase another ($15). So that's like $80 back! Home Depot doesn't have cash back feature from eBates and I paid with my credit card so I will get a tiny percent back as well.
When you are buying a bigger item, do you often compare prices among stores or price match?

Hehe I try to save as much as I can. But when it comes to food I don't really save much.
It balances out though because I'll find other ways to save lol.

I am good at the shopping department, lol. I like to coupon here/there but I get better coupons from the mall like Macy's. Hehe

I am more picky but my boyfriend's in a rush and when it comes to appliances he isn't as picky as me. Plus it'll be in his home so it's ultimately up to him. I just like saving money so I try to find the best deal.

I always compare prices, and see which one would give me a better deal.

Yes I do compare the prices before I shop for bigger items. I bought a brand new 19.5 inch all in one Accer desktop at about $450 bucks online after comparing prices and specifications. That's a really good deal because mom uses it to watch shows only.

Yes - browsing the internet for better deals is the way to go!
I love saving any money I could especially since it doesn't require too much work ~ just a quick search and read of reviews. That's good that your mom loves her desktop too!!

I haven't made a large purchase in years, but I'm not the one who had to pay attention to all of that. So I didn't.

You can save some money though!
My boyfriend isn't into all that or pays attention either. He was going to just place the order at the store and at the store already the difference was $$40 lol. (from in store price to their online website) You would think they'd be the same price especially since they both need to be delivered and its not in stock immediately to bring home.

I am having issues with my dryer too, it doesn't want to turn off..and sometimes it doesn't dry the clothes properly, but I think I will get it fixed. I don't think I can afford a new one.
