Does my vacuum suck? NO!

And that's because it broke yet again. When my husband and I needed a new vacuum, we went to the Oreck store, thinking it would be a great one for us. I showed the salesman my very long hair and said this was the reason my other vacs had broken in the past. He insisted that this was THE ONE for me because his daughters have long hair and there's never any problem. Well, over a year ago, it broke. I had to pay Oreck over $50 and he told me all they did was a cleaning. Almost a year to the day it broke again. Not the same way but it won't pick up anything. I refuse to pay more money for it, so I'll see if anyone wants my broken vac and that's the end of it. Thankfully, my new apartment has no carpeting, so I'm saying goodbye to vacuum cleaners forever. I guess my hair is a curse to vacuums everywhere! lol -Claudia-

Did the belt burn out? A lot of times that is the issue and can be replaced for $10 at the hardware store.

That was the first thing I checked because I always have a spare belt in the house and I do know how to change them. But no, the belt is fine. And it was fine the last time, too. I hate those stupid machines.

@ricki_911 Well, I don't even know where the filter is. I could check but then again I'm moving in less than a week and I won't need the vacuum anymore, so it doesn't matter. I'll give it to someone who can fix it and maybe use it. :) Thanks for some great ideas!

We do not have carpeting in the house, but I still use a vacuum for the carpets under our couch. Long hair is a problem.

@CRK109 I had carpeting for 30 years when we lived in an apartment and I did not like it. Floors are easier to clean and you can really wash a floor and be sure it is germs free. I have only one big carpet under the two couches, I wash it every three months with a product and one small vacuum is enough to keep it clean.

I've decided to go with any kind of throw rugs that I will be able to put in the washer and dryer. I'd rather live that way than with a vacuum. But that's just me. I think I've lived so much of my life with carpeting that I'm happy to be rid of them once and for all. :) (and it's much better than having to cut my hair!) lol

We have central vac. It sucks really good but is a pain to deal with the long hose.
