I wish I was a quick witted as my friend's husband. I have been getting repeated cell phone calls from a certain location. Sometimes back to back three or four in five minutes time. So has she.
My friend F______ handed her phone to her husband this morning. He answered it then put it on speaker phone. Conversation went something like this:
caller: our records show you have been using our website in your search for employment, what kind of work would you be interested in?
husband: male prostitute.
caller: Oh, okay. I think we may be able to help you. First I need to check to make sure you are an American citizen. Are you an American citizen?
husband: illegal alien.
caller: Oh, okay. We can work with that. "click" she hung up the phone. F_____
has not received any more of those calls today.
I wish I was that clever. I may have to prepare some ideas and start answering these nuisance phone calls, just for fun.

I just disconnect. They may try it once, twice, ten times? Then what?

That was clever. I bet she never gets another call. Thankfully, the only time I see one of those is in an email and it goes straight to spam.

My son once answered the phone and the person on the other end wanted to order a pizza and he told them they had the wrong number. When they kept calling back he finally took the pizza order.

i was getting the same kind of calls for awhile. I call them back and put my number on the do no call list. It used to wake me up before I put my phone on silent before bed. Anyway, I have answered phone calls with "Warning : you just woke up a third shift worker up, STOP CALLING! and hang up." It works sometimes but then other times you are actually getting a recording calling you.
My grandfather would answer the phone in French to deter telemarketers. He doesnt' own a phone anymore but I imagine he'd do much the same today.
