Gender neutral bathrooms.

Frankly, we need them. We either need single seaters, or a bathroom that is known to be gender neutral. If the bathroom is not a single seater, with a lockable door, then normal male and female bathrooms should be also on site. Why am I adamant about this? I hear people on here writing that they feel if they have female bits they need to go to the women's room no matter what. And if they have male bits they need to go to the male room no matter what. I completely and utterly disagree with that. And here is why. By saying that you are saying you are complete ok with a person who totally looks like a dude, in the last stages of transition, going into the women's room next to your 12 year old daughter, just because that person doesn't yet have men's bits? I would not be. Nor would I be, if I was that person, feel comfortable going into the women's room, looking like a man, esp not if there might be young children, as I would not want to make others uncomfortable. Would you want someone who looked like a woman going into a bathroom with your teenaged boy? Would you want someone who appeared to be a man going to pee next to your wife? Places stop people from going in the wrong bathroom, if you look male and you try and walk into the women's room, someone is prob going to call the cops and charge you with peeping or something. What do you have to do, drop your pants and prove you are a woman? Come on. PLUS, people can act horrible. And I have no doubt that someone looking female walking into the men's room very well might get harassed. And someone looking male walking into the women's room would mostly likely be met by screams, possibly mace, and cops called. No. We need gender neutral bathrooms. If they are single seater, they can be a whoever bathroom, family, dad with young daughter, mom with son, etc etc. If they are multiseater, then have more on site that aren't so open. I see gender neutral/family bathrooms at airports all the time, you use that, you are agreeing to the fact you can run into ANYONE in that bathroom. And I have before, because the woman's line was stupid long.

US public bathrooms are TOO public for my liking. What is it with the most private of acts being expected to take place in cubicles that don't go to the ceiling or the floor?

I can agree with this, I always thought they should be little rooms.

@AbbyGreenhill But I was writing a sad song yesterday and embracing my sensitive side. In fact, I got so into the song that I identified as female for about 10 minutes. Shouldn't I be able to use the Ladies Room if I identify as female?

We have multi gender bathrooms in most places here in Europe, there is not enough space to make separate ones.

so over there it's already just a, well bathroom! People are making a huge deal on this and I think it's a bit silly, just go and get out of there

@Jessicalynnt Here it is surely not a problem, in most places there is "a bathroom" and every gender use it.

I agree - gender neutral bathrooms absolutely save time especially for the ladies. What an odd topic and it seems I have missed quite a few of your posts over the days I have been babysitting my grandchildren

I got on a rant, so many people were going on about not needing bathrooms for mixed groups, or trans, or whatevers, and I think that's really narrow minded.

@Inlemay I rarely get in a snit like that one, I just got super annoyed. Just because "you" can use a traditional bathroom, others cannot! This allows men with young daughters to take them to the bathroom comfortably. This allows men born women who transitioned to women to potty in peace. The law that sparked this said you had to go to the bathroom of your BIRTH gender, and some people have that surgically changed!

@TypicalRussian America needs more united then, using those terms. I have had issues when I took children in public, I am not about to let a 6 year old boy use the restroom alone when I dont know who is in there, but felt bad making him use the girls room

@Jessicalynnt public bathrooms can be either separate for male and female or "united" for both

Individual rooms would seem to be the answer.

I agree. But don't think it would lay to rest issues of where transsexuals should pee.

I agree with that. I think the North Carolina governor should have explained the bill more better. Originally there was ordinance saying any man can go into any bathroom so to counter that he chose this bill.

yeah the bathrooms that ARE gender neutral, need to be marked as such, so that those who arent comfortable can choose not to use.

Very sensible idea. It can't happen soon enough - although they're taking their time about it.

I am sure it costs too much, unless those bathrooms were one seaters to begin with, then you could just make them "bathrooms" and drop the genders
