Yesterday was another day to remember; it was my big brother’s birthday yesterday. We attended the Holy Mass for him, and in the afternoon we chat on messenger.
He is my big brother- the nurse who works in UK. We gave him company through chatting for an hour, and he showed us the gifts he received from work and his friends. We (I, my son, and my sister) did not show our sadness because he was celebrating his birthday alone in a very far foreign country.
He narrated too, a weird story while he was resting. His UK phone lying on his bed suddenly rang, and when he checked it out, the caller was his other UK phone, which was on a table. Then, he thought he lost his pair of scissors, only to find it while we were chatting, that is was on top of his cupboard.
We told him maybe our parents (+) wanted to greet him so they did something so he is reminded of them.
He hung up the phone because he said he will go to his garden and fix the blooming flowers.
Have you celebrated your birthday alone?

I cannot remember a birthday that i spent alone . Even when i am in Manila , my sister and her family were there to celebrate it with me . Besides , my husband and daughter called me as well as my family here called to greet also .
It's enough that we have them for our birthday , just as your brother is so happy to have chatted with you three , on his birthday .

A late birthday greeting to your brother Ate :) As for your question, I never had to celebrate my birthday alone. Because I celebrate the same day with my father and my now deceased uncle (my father's elder brother). I remember when I was still a child, my uncle who was well-off used to throw a big party to celebrate our birthdays.
Now that he's been gone for so many years, my father and I celebrate our birthdays with our family. And to my Papa, I will always be his baby girl : )

Papa and I used to celebrate our birthdays in a Chinese restaurant at Ongpin (Chinatown). The restaurant that we used to go to had to accommodate our large family hehe.
But now that he moved to San Juan, the mere idea of travelling to Ongpin tires him.
These recent years, we spent our birthdays at his favorite mall (Robinson's Magnolia). With the suffocating climate, he really enjoys the cold air at the mall.

@jcj_111776 Indeed, that is nice of him to be in a cool place. It is so hot here in my place again, and I would prefer to just stay indoors for fear of heat stroke.

That is good, hija. My birthday? We celebrate it with a cake given by my son, and then we have noodles (pansit) for long life. sometimes we buy 'na lang', sometimes, my sister also cooks. Of course, our FB page is always flooded with the greetings from our family and friends alike

it's so much easier now compared to long distance operator-assisted calls and letters that take weeks to arrive.
i hope we get to see his blooming flowers, too. did he like gardening when he was still here?

but she has her friends to celebrate her birthday with, am I right? As long as you greet her, then I believe she is happy.

@ida123 I was always on duty, my friend. We both go to church then I have my duty after. But that is just fine. Having celebrations in a Muslim country is not fun too because we cannot serve pork barbecue at all.

Technology has made it possible for family members to communicate with one another but nothing can compare with actually being there.Having lost my mom a few years back, the weird story of your brother touch a nerve in me. Sadly technology hasn't made it possible to communicate with our dearly departed. We will have to make do with our prayers and in our dreams.
