Turning Disadvantages to Advantages

One way to test a person adaptability and versatility is when he can fight against the cruel punches of life and turn disadvantages to advantages. It is an advantage if you were born with a silver spoon, how about if you are not? A student who despite of his struggles in poverty was still able to finish his studies and triumphantly graduated with a degree is a good example of this. Another example are those handicapped who do not give up on their life and still become successful in life by living a still normal life. Are there disadvantages in your life in which you were able to turn it into advantages?

I think being born in the right country is very important. Girls who are born in Middle East where they are not allowed the freedom to fulfill their dreams are at a disadvantage. They cannot just move out, get a job, and enjoy a kind of lifestyle that they want.

I do not know that girls in Middle East suffer from that condition. Does it have something to do with their traditions and beliefs?

@annierose Of course, they cannot even take a bus unescorted! We should value our freedom.

@scheng1 I am wondering if all girls follow that or there might be some who prefer to disobey that in exchange for freedom..Here in my country, cultures are slowly changing from conservative to being liberated.

@skysnap I agree with you. Have you ever overcome a certain kind of hardship before?

I think it has something to do with our mindset. Try to observe and analyze how we think.

There was a war on when I was born and we had very little in the way of material goods. It made me appreciate them later on.

As they say everything happens for a reason. I heard older people tell that those people who were raised in poverty are stronger and braver than people who were raised the other way around. But I know there will always be some people, who, even rich are also considered strong and brave against the blows of life.

@annierose Yes - being rich doesn't stop people being brave and good. There are good and bad amongst them, just as there are amongst the rest of us

I think being born into family that was not wealth off helped me to appreciate money and work harder to educate myself.

I believe on it. When I was in college and just only depend on my family, I buy lots of things without thinking if it is really needed. But when I started to work and found out how difficult it is to earn money, then I start to be wise in spending.

@gudheart I think that you will become very rich easily because you are economical. As with me, my only vices are books and trips. It gives me inspiration and energy especially when things become dull for me.

Being optimistic is one of life's blessings. It give us more strenght and hope. Believing something good is about to happen makes me forget the discouragements and rejections in my past.

Life will always dish out a few disadvantages. How we handle them determines our character. I think the people born with a silver spoon in their mouth are the ones will the real disadvantage. They rarely learn to roll with the punches. They're quicker to give up

That was what I often heard from other people too. I think it was a way of encouraging poor people never give up and be strong. Have you ever experienced having misfortunes?

@BettyB I understand. My mom always tell me to save money and if I already have much then try to invest it on buying lands. Her face always beams with hopes whenever she sees how her once poor as a rat friend is now one of the richest in our place. She wants me to be like her friend-- to know how to use money wisely.

@annierose I grew up dirt poor, and my husband and I walked a tight line when our kids were little. We've had our fair share of rough times. We live conservatively and watch pennies. It's become a way of life.

I know so many who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth. I was not that lucky. I am thankful though, because I know what it is like to struggle. Most people have normal lives, and have never gone through anything.

Pains make us stronger. We can be considered soldiers in life and hurts make us braver and wiser too. I think no one can escape hurts, problems, and pain. They are a parcel in our journey.

It's true people who are born in a good family always have an advantage as they never get deprived of anything. Yes we had as my father's earnings was not enough to feed four kids still we all studied well and have been doing well now when have our own families

I also experienced having difficulties in money that did not leave me any choice but to be a working student. It was really tough working in the morning and attending classes in the afternoon plus the responsibilities at home that I needed to fulfill. I am glad that those things make me strong and I believe it happened with you too. How were you able to finish your studies despite financial difficulties?

@nomus24g Our family is very important. Other people can step out in our life easily but not our family. They are a treasure.

I cannot say that I was born with a silver spoon, but I have been pretty lucky during my life. As everyone, I had my bad moment and I have always tried to go on with an open mind and a little optimism.

It is a good thing being flexible in our life and to go on no matter how heavy our heart is due to unwanted circumstances. I agree that having an open mind is a must. As what other people says, we should not waste our time looking on closed doors, instead, turn around and look for other opportunities.

I am not born with a silver spoon, I learn the value of living within our means. I learn how to work hard to achieve what you want. I am also a positive thinker.
