My Indestructible Electric Lawnmower

The duck tape repair was already there when I got this electric lawnmower

It's a beautiful day, and I was out today mowing grass. I'm a small woman, and I've always had trouble starting a gas powered lawn mower, for me this is the number one advantage of an electric lawnmower. I always said I wanted an electric lawn mower, my husband scoffed at the idea, but when he saw an electric Black and Decker lawn mower at a yard sale about five years ago for $20, he got it for me. After all, he didn't have much to lose; if it worked out, I would be mowing the lawn. I don't actually even have a lawn. I live on 2.5 acres, and I have weeds. Of course I don't mow the whole 2.5 acres, just the areas near the house and where we want to walk. Most people would use a weed-eater for the jobs I do, but I find them heavy and awkward. The lawn mower is easy to push, I just get a really long extension cord. And let me tell you, I have not taken it easy on this mower at all. Sometimes the stuff I cut borders on brush. The height on it is adjustable, so I raise it up as high as it will go to avoid hitting rocks, then I just go for it. I mow down whatever is in my path, from foxtails to thistles, and it chews through them like a champ. I've even cut small blackberry bushes.

When I was a teenager (umm 35 years ago), my parents got an electric lawn mower and well I was a teenager and ran over the electric cord. That is great for $20.

I ran over the cord once as a teen too.

@norcal - I have actually run over the cord many times, but I have the mower raised to it's highest setting, so the blades do not hit the cord.

Well done you for tackling your various vegetation. Vince is lucky enough to have a ride-on mower so there is no chance of me having to take over. :)

@norcal Although there is quite a bit to mow, I think for Vince the mowing is over all too quickly.

That would be great, then I could mow the whole property.

I need a mower like that or I need to get a rider. Hubby is not in favor of either, but I am the one who mows.

That is a really good lawn mower for $20! You got a good bargain ..it is still going. Yes looks like it would be somewhat lightweight for you Sherry. No lawns here to mow, but I would happily trade a few acres for this apartment.

We also have an electric lawn mower now, we did have a gas one before, but did not like it.

My husband thought it was a ridiculous idea. He changed his tune.

I hope it never breaks. I doubt that a new one would work as well.

Wow, he does know how to get a good deal. if he does not get this $20 mower for you, you better get him to mow the lawn for the rest of his life.
