My son is going to go for his first school trip to Plein [France] next week. He is 8 year old. He is going to be away from me for the first time. Three days and two nights trip. They are going to do many activities, exploration, trecking... My son is excited. How did you feel when you send your kid outside without your presence? Was it hard to spend those days without them? Sure it would be hard. I don't have kids yet but my nephew went on camping for 4 days and 3 nights. You can 't help but think of how he was doing there

I would find it really hard, but then again it is needed for them to learn to be away from home for a little while and be a little more independent.

@destimona I was a mess when my kids started such things. I still worth when they are away though I don't tell them. The eldest is going to Paris next month for his 30th birthday and I'll be anxious!

My older girls were 12-13 when we sent them away to cadet camp for the first time, and my youngest girl did an overnight school trip at age 10. I think 8 is perhaps a little young to be gone out of country overnight. But if he has done well on day trips, it ought to be fine. It's not easy, those first times when they are away overnight. But after a while it becomes just another thing they do without Mom & Dad. My oldest two girls now fly all over the place alone, and stay away from home for 6-7 weeks at a time. I don't worry overly much, as long as they check in once in a whil.

It is not easy to let your child go away from you for the first time and it seems you worry a lot about them at least I did. It is a good experience for them around that age though.

I guess parents feel excited and nervous at the same time. Parents should learn to let their child go. They will eventually grow up and need to learn to be on their own. Easier said than done of course.

I never experience sending my kids outside without my presence, it was hard I think because we can't see what they're doing there but I hope, your son will enjoy that trip.

My sons have only been to their grandmas house but never stayed lol. I can't bring myself to do any of that right now. I hope that he has a wonderful time. I am getting to where I can't wait for them to be able to do trips away but being paranoid gets the best of me. My husband wants to one day let them go stay with family out of town when they get like twelve. You can imagine my paranoia then lol.
