I did this assignment for a criminology class a few semesters back and recentlt thought of it again due to recent break ins on my neighborhood and my dads neighborhood. There was this study done with incarcerated anonymous burglars and they shed some light on when/how they would partake in burglarizing houses. This is some of what they concluded:
*Most burglaries occurred between 10am-3pm -hours where most folks would be at work (this seems like a given)
*They burglarized the majority of the time less than 2 miles from their own home. Some said its because they felt they knew the neighborhood well.
*Most of the burglars were males under 25. (Sorry guys).
*Entry most commonly made or forced through front doors and first floor windows (the front door thing surprised me - why not the back or side door?)
*90% of the burglars were deterred by a "Beware of Dog" sign OR any type of sign or sticker advertising a home security company (Ie: "Protected by ADT Security").
I found a couple more interesting facts online:
*Burglars spend on average 8-12 minutes looking for items to steal in your home.
*Only 13% of burglaries lead to arrest on average.
Did any of these surprise you or did they seem like no brainers? Are there any more you have heard of? Do you do anything to ward of burglars? Or is this not a concern for you?

My house was broken into but I believe it was the guy that I was talking to stage the robbery.
We had borrowed some money from a financial institution and he was to leave the money at my home. How convenient it is that the person took some o fthe money and a few bills were found leaving a trail....my dvd player was gone (he did not have one) and the neighbour heard someone calling my dog bubbles back into the house. The dog knew him so she would not bark but would run outside to play. It was so staged that even my daughter believes it is him and I do too. After all when we should be getting married this man was trying to steal my money out the bank!
Having had this experience it has opened my eyes to know that it is terrible whether you know the perpetrator or not and no one should go through the trauma that I did - the person was watching out for me because the front room window was open and I never leave it open.

Burglars are very common nowadays. They are becoming more fierce.
