What About A Regular Snooze?

Because I have a sleep disorder and do not always get enough sleep I am often worried about how this may affect my health.
In many parts of the world a siesta is a normal part of the day. There is now scientific evidence that says napping may actually help you live longer. A study involving 24,000 people reads that people who take a regular nap are 37% less likely to die from heart disease. They are saying now that a nap during the day may help your heart by keeping the stress hormones down.
Do you nap? Do you think it makes you seem old if you do? Over the hill? What are your thoughts on this issue?

@LadyDuck If we do not feel tired,it means we are getting sufficient rest.

sometimes I do, but it seems to make me groggy the rest of the day, and have issues sleeping at night

Rest and relaxation aren't bad things. Remember 'power naps'. We need to take care of our bodies. One of the real problems the majority of people have is lack of sleep.

@celticeagle I imagine I'm walking down dimly lit stairs. I count the stairs as I go and it gradually becomes darker and darker. It can be a long way down but I'm asleep before I reach the bottom.

@MsTickle ...In the darkness? That would keep me awake.

My mind won't let me fall quite so easily. Power naps are good. Just some time to regroup is what we need a lot of times.

I think that it depends on the individual. I don't always nap, but I do nap. I think some people live such busy lives that they feel that if they nap they are missing out on valuable time. I think THAT is even more stressing.
Napping IS good, even if it's just a 20 minute siesta.

I don't think we have to take a long nap, but a few minutes to quiet the mind is good.

@celticeagle I am not sure how exactly to describe this so I hope that it's clear enough.
If I feel sleepy? I can lie down and literally just quiet my mind as much as possible. I will be halfway between sleep and wakefulness, in a sort of "dream like state". Before I fall deeper into sleep, I wake up. This only tends to work for me if I am lying in a position that I am not used to lying in, something comfortable but not what I am used to.
These "naps" usually last around 30 minutes for me. I wake up feeling restored.

@ScribbledAdNauseum ...Sounds like you are in a sort of meditative state. I do some of my best thinking when I am like this.

I didn't know about the correlation between napping and heart disease. If nothing else, I am going to curl up in my favorite chair and close my eyes for a half hour. It certainly can't hurt!

I'm all for napping - but I wish I had the time! We are always on the go with the kids (the kids of course do not nap anymore), so no nap for me. I tend to believe that it is good for the body and mind to take a rest - look how much animals/pets sleep. I think it helps to "recharge the battery" so to speak. I don't think naps make us seem old . . . I think a bunch of us probably don't listen to our own bodies enough - we should be getting more sleep in.

Listening to our bodies. Very important. A few moments to regroup is good.

@infatuatedbby .....And that is what a nap should be. Refreshing and a chance to recharge.

I think napping can be a good way of catching up on sleep, I sometimes do if I've been at work early and have missed out on sleep.

I try to lie down for about ten minutes during my free period in the afternoon. Sometimes it happens and sometimes it doesn't. I feel better when I do it though!

I think it is good to do this. At least take a few moment to rest and gather our thoughts.
