Unfortunately not a ladies' man.

He loves the outdoor life, it appeals to his restless spirit and his love of freedom. Home is simply the place to sleep and eat and, occasionally, a safe haven.
Although he is by any standard a good looker, he is not popular with the girls. They find him playful but not affectionate. Consequently his relationships are fleeting ones.
Sometimes I want to hold him, but he stiffens and I withdraw but there are moments when he is responsive, usually after a busy day or a good meal. Then he welcomes my attention.
I wish he was different, but I love Toby for what he is. A tom cat who enjoys the chase but is bored once he has made a conquest.

He plays too rough with the girls, they like soft touches and soft talk. He starts OK but he gets excited and then things start to go bad.

@41CombedaleRoad Banjo purrs as soon as I touch him. Even when I pick him up he purrs while trying to get away. Strange is my cat.

Toby loves one of the dogs, she washes his face every morning and he purrs with the pleasure. Sometimes he purrs for me too, but he has to be hungry or tired to do that.

Those dang Tomcats, they win our hearts and run away. Toby sounds like he is a keeper, that can't be kept, but is appreciated.

He will stay all right, the pickings are pretty good for a cat living with me, and he knows what side his bread is buttered.

@41CombedaleRoad perhaps he will come around and eventually let you hold him.

Then that will have to be enough affection shown to him.

Toby does not want to be held ever, although sometimes he raises his head and his tail when I stroke him.

I am hoping it will become more intimate as he ages. He is only a year old at present.

I read about the shoes, funny the things we imagine having a relationship with, some of them quite practical ones!

He is a cat with attitude. Quite a little toughy really, but he is more vulnerable than he realizes.

Yes some tom cats can be a little standoffish. I love affectionate cats but we have no cats currently. They are not at all like dogs, y dogs always love me!!

He is not quite so cute when his ears go back and his eyes narrow. But sometimes he rolls on his back and invites a stroke on his tummy. He has a very soft and furry tummy.
