Tartan Day

I read somewhere that this is Tartan Day. So I chose a picture of a man dressed in Tartan and playing the bagpipes. I have some Scotch blood in my ancestry, and maybe that is why I love tartans. I only have one skirt at the present time, but have worn a lot of tartan in the past. I also love listening to the bagpipes. I remember in a town where we use dot live there was a pipe and drum band that used to practice every Wednesday night in a park by the river. We used to go and listen to them. Do you like tartan, and do you enjoy listening to the bagpipes?

Yes, I like the Tartan. I had a dress trimmed in it when I was in grade school. I have Scottish blood. Enjoy listening to the bagpipes. It is all something to be proud of.

@AnneEJ ....I have heard a lot of jokes about trying to learn. Personally, I would rather learn to play the harp. But, I certainly have respect for those who have learned to play these pipes.

I like tartan on the Irish side ..first gen Irish here. Adore the magical bagpipes as well. Happy Tartan then. There are many variations of Tartan as you know..here is one of the Irish nationals.

I also like tartan and listening to bagpipes. I do have Irish in my bloodline but not sure how much. I really want to have the DNA testing done from Ancestry to find out how much.

@AnneEJ On my Mom's side of the family, I have Irish and Dutch. On my father's side, I have English and French. At least this is what I have been told by my parents but you never know for sure. That's why I would like to have the DNA done.

I have had several tartan plaid kilts, and have one throw blanket. We saw a tartan fabric factory in Scotland which was amazing. Kilts weigh 8 pounds! I was serenaded by a bagpipe player, too. We loved Scotland, especially the highlands.

Yes I have always thought I would like to visit Scotland. My daughter and her husband were there about three years ago, and they liked it.

I love the sound of bag pipes especially when they play " Amazing Grace ". I'm also fascinated to see old films where soldiers are marching to war playing bag pipes. I read somewhere that they got that idea of the musical instrument from the Roman soldiers who conquered Britania. Well tartans remind me a lot of young beautiful school girls when I was a lad

I guess it depends on what they are playing. There are a lot of good upbeat Scottish songs.

They have a day for everything don't they? I like tartan but I'm not so keen on the bagpipes. I like the tenor ones - ten or twelve miles away!

Tartan is a pattern of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colours, which originated in woven wool, but are now made in many other materials. We usually associate tartan with Scotland, and their kilts. The Tartan for each clan was different. One of the most popular tartans today is Black Watch. Here in Canada we have tartans for some of the provinces. The Nova Scotia one is my favourite.
