Gone to the Bridge

Rio has been fragile since last summer. We have been taking extra care of her, but she took a turn for the worse yesterday. I really wasn't sure she'd make it through the night, but she was still with us, barely. I just couldn't let her continue suffering, so I took her to the vet this morning. It was hard. She was very pretty and I rescued her almost exactly 13 years ago. She loved to lay and sit on that corner of the counter, we will miss our girl. I also have another sick cat, Taillight, but she's still holding her own and isn't in any particular pain, so we are continuing to watch and love on her.

Thank you. She's always been pretty undemanding as a pet, even so, we will miss her.

Taillight has cancer, so she's not going to get better. We really didn't expect her to live quite this long, but are very glad she has. Rio has never been one of the "in our faces" cats, but she's been a fixture on the counter top for years and will be missed.

@crazyhorseladycx Its a matter of time, but she would've never have gotten cancer if Miranda had gotten her spayed before we had gotten her.

It is very difficult to let go but we don't want them to suffer either. I have had to do this in the past and I cried for days on end. I still miss them to this day. So sorry for your loss as I know how hard it is.

I'm doing pretty good. As I was telling a friend online who also just lost a cat, I've been knowing this was coming and have been trying to make her feel special, and still have a chance to say my good-byes. Meanwhile, I have other cats who have medical problems and the roomie with 4 doctor appointments this week.

Yeah, and then we lost Taillight less than a week later, very upsetting.

It can be really hard to let our pets go but it is the last good deed you can do for them. 13 years was a good long life for a cat.

We had her 13 years, but she was in the range of 13.5 to 14 years because she was already at least 6-8 months when we rescued her.

She is beautiful, I know you will miss her. Sometimes it is the kindest choice to help them pass, though.

Kindest, not easiest, but when you agree to take them in and care for them, that's for their whole lives, and the hard with the easy.

I don't remember Rio, but sad to hear of her passing, anyway.

With all my cats, I can understand that you might not remember those who haven't been talked about a lot like Oliver and Rygel.

That is the worst part having pets. The agony of losing them now and again hurts.

Rio is our 3rd in 9 months. Sad, but losing two in one week, that was really had.

I am so sorry for your loss. =( I cannot imagine going through that. When my dog is at that point I don't know what I'm going to do. The thought of losing her kills me so much, she's my baby.

You have my most deep and heartfelt sympathy. I know that there are absolutely no words to take away your pain and grief. Hold on tight to your memories of her and the fact that you did what sounds was the right thing by helping her ease out of that pain. Again, I am so sorry.

Thank you. I've known for a while it was just a matter of time, but this last few days she's gone places she's never even tried to go before. That's always been a sign that the time was nearing. Hunting for a quiet place to die is how I think of it.

Its never easy, but its for the best. Rio was never one of our loving pets, not feral and merely decorative like some, but also not one to sit in our laps and demand attention.
