Once Upon A Time, so I am told. . .

I have mentioned junk mail and sending it in to companies in some other discussions of mine. I have a friend with a wicked sense of humor. Long before the internet, we were discussing all these free credit card offers and loan offers that come in the mail. She says that this is what she used to do: She said she would open the offers up, and of course there were self addressed return envelopes. She would return the paperwork, with a version of this statement: "Your offer came just in time. I will take the full amount My car broke down on the highway and I cannot pay the towing and I lost my job last Wednesday. My husband just ran off with his girlfriend and my poor old mamma needs surgery." She claimed that the offers quit almost immediately when she responded this way. She was always quite outrageous, so I think she may have actually done this.

Sounds like how a friend answere d telemarketer. They asked to speak to her husband. She told them to let her know when they found that lying, cheating son of a b*****. The telemarketer apologized for bothering this woman. As an aside, they are a happily married couple.

I have just sent the envelopes back with nothing inside of them but I think I might just try this and see if they will stop sending me those offers.

Probably these days there is some way to tell about this stuff, but I loved the thought of doing it.

I have caller ID for the phone calls and I refuse to even pick it up if I do not know the number.

I expect that some of these companies get quite a few letters of that genre over the years.

That sounds like a good way to stop those annoying mail offers. I hate when my mailbox is clogged with junk and I have to recycle it all

I had read a long time ago about tearing up offers and putting them in the prepaid envelopes and actually did that.

LOL that is pretty funny that she would do that. I just throw the junk mail in the burn pile and when burn it all once a week or so. I would worry that if I did what your friend did that they would sign me up and then I would be stuck with a credit card when I was just joking around.

that's pretty funny. I know another who stuffs all the junk mail in those, since they pay postage on weight later, so makes them as heavy as they can
