Dealing With Dishonesty

Last year before Christmas I found a $100 dollar bill lying on the floor in the hall at work. I picked it up, contacted my supervisor and she put it in an envelope with my name. It sat in the hotel safe for five days and when no one claimed it, the money became mine. I did it because it was the right and honest thing to do.
Now I find myself dealing with someone being dishonest with me. I paid to have my manuscript edited and after several promises that they had emailed it, I have received nothing but empty promises and excuses. Either they never edited the manuscript or they may have accidentally deleted it and simply don't want to have to edit it again. I've given them every opportunity to come clean and tell me the truth.
All I want is either the edited manuscript that I paid for or my money back. If I have to make it a legal matter so be it.

I'm sorry your going through that. Honest people are to find these days, it's good that you choose to be honest though. I hope the situation resolves without you having to take legal action because that gets messy and tough sometimes.

I demanded the return of my funds. We'll see what happens.

@LovingMyBabies I'd still rather have the edited manuscript. The person still claims they sent it.

I hope you get your manuscript edited. Not very nice how you're honest and you meet people that aren't.

Sadly, I'm finding dishonesty is pretty much a norm.

@irishidid It is such a shame that dishonestly is a common nowadays. I do hope that person doesn't get away with that especially you paid them!!

@irishidid sounds horribly similar to some of my recent experiences - hope you get t sorted out OK. Did you keep a copy of the script yourself too?

I'll probably have to hire another editor but I'll get it settled.

Yeah, that's pretty much the norm but most editors aren't dishonest because they know word gets around.

Considering you have given this person ample time to tell the truth about the editing job they were supposed to do, I feel you have no other recourse but to take it to small claims court.
Hopefully the next person you hire to do the work will do it in a timely fashion and not keep you hanging.

Oh no I am so sorry to know this is happening my friend.

This is bad behaviour for a professional person. I hope you get some satisfaction without having to resort to litigation.
