It's Tax Season! Have You Filed Your Return Yet?

Have you filed your taxes yet?

I spent about half an hour this morning filing tax returns for me and hubby. I love to use the Netfile option, as I just have to plug in a few bits of info and the rest is done for me. So we're done for another year, and hopefully the refund will soon be on its way! We officially have until the end of the month to file, but I figured I'd get it out of the way now. I still have to help my oldest with hers, but we need to wait a little for her to check on a couple of details before we can send hers in... Is it income tax season where you live? If it is, have you filed yet? If not, I'd love to hear about when you file and how income tax (if any) is handled in your country! [Image: Alexas_Fotos/Pixabay/CC0]

It is Tax Season here in the US and our filing deadline is this Friday the 15th. I have already filed though, so that worry is off my shoulders.

@Ruby3881 I'd forgotten about that. When I worked in Massachusetts for a CPA firm for a couple years I had the chance to prepare one or two Canadian tax returns. I hadn't thought about that in years.

@DWDavis I always wondered why you folks have an earlier deadline!

Your deadline is always about two weeks before ours. We can file until midnight on the 30th.

But as an individual, do you have to declare your earnings to the government periodically in order to see if you owe them taxes (or if they owe you a refund?) Businesses here must also track such things as tax collected from customers, tax withheld from employees' earnings, etc. But both individuals and businesses must file one very comprehensive report, once a year, in order to assess if we owe them tax or if they owe us a refund. Do you do the same in the Philippines?

I have delivered the forms to the tax office yesterday. The office is close to the hospital where my husband had an appointment. Today I should celebrate.

I've always done my own, but would definitely use a service if they got complicated enough. I find the tax software does a really good job of alerting us to things we might have missed, though, and we get a bigger refund because of it.

The accountant was here on Wednesday, took all the. Umber so. Hopefully by Monday we will have all the info back and the taxes e-filed. Then we wait for the tax refund. Next year will be simpler. The store will have been closed for, two, years, the building will have been sold for more than a year...yes, a simple tax return.

I'm expecting my taxes to start getting simpler over the next couple years too. Of course we still have the kids, and next year there will be education and tuition amounts for my oldest i guess. But those go on hubby's return, not mine.

Soon as my W2 is ready I file and get it out of the way. I spent over 14 years waiting on my ex to give me his stuff, filing at the deadline in a haze of stress. Since I've been able to file single, it's easy and takes me less than 30 minutes. I've adjusted my W4 to not hold out as much so my refunds are small.
