My Cell Phone Died and I Didn't Even Know It!

I had a surprisingly quiet weekend, and was not bothered once by my staff at work the entire three days I was off. I thought that was pretty peculiar, as I can never go an entire weekend without someone calling me about something. In fact, it was so quiet, I began to worry! But lo and behold, I discovered this morning why things were so quiet...my work-issued smartphone decided to kick the bucket over the weekend! Yes, that's right, it went to smartphone heaven! I can't believe I didn't notice it sooner, but honestly, I was having too much fun this weekend to even notice my phone wasn't working. Thankfully, though, I found out this morning that I'm due for an upgrade anyway, so if my provider can't fix the phone I'll at least get a brand-new one! I guess I'm not very observant about what's going on with my work phone. I could tell you though, that would never happen with my personal smartphone! I'm glued to that thing 24/7! Have you ever had a cell phone crap out on you at the worst possible time?

I'd be turning my cell-phone off every weekend! But I guess that's not an option. :)

There are rules in education. The school is not allowed to bother us on our free time. After all, it's not like they pay us enough to cover these hours.

Unfortunately, I'm required to keep my work phone turned on 24/7. Since I oversee aquatics for our city, it is considered safety-sensitive and I must respond to emergencies at any time of day or night!

@moffittjc Hopefully you're compensated for it reasonably well.

Until 2 years ago I only had the cheapo phones. I always kept them charged. Didn't use them for internet. Only used them for phone calls and an occasional text. Then I upgraded to a better phone and was overjoyed to get Facebook on it. I have had my smartphone for over 2 years. Other than a few glitches where I have to shut it off or take the battery out, I haven't had many problems. Of course I could always upgrade and get a new phone. But, I don't want to lock into another 2 year contract.

@moffittjc we pay way too much for our service and get crap service. We are surrounded by mountains and good service is hard to get.

It's so easy to break contracts nowadays, that I wouldn't even worry about that too much. I always upgrade every 2 years and renew my contract so that I can keep my discounted pricing going. I used to have Alltel, and I had a killer deal with them through a government discount program they offered. When Verizon bought out Alltel, they grandfathered in my discounted plan, with the stipulation I could keep it forever as long as I keep renewing my contract with them. Every time I go in to renew and the sales person pulls up my plan, they are like "Holy crap you have a good deal. Don't ever give it up!"

@moffittjc You are a danger with your cell phones wondering where else they have ended up. Good thing you didn't try to fish it out of the commode.

Last year, my daughter and I were crossing a busy intersection on our way to a football game, and she dropped her phone in the middle of the road as we ran across the busy street. As soon as she realized she dropped her phone and turned to go back and grab it, a big dump truck ran right over it in the street. Believe it or not, her phone only had one tiny little scratch that was hardly noticeable! We now call that her Superman phone, like it's made of steel or something!

@Marilynda1225 The funny thing is, my daughter's phone is the only one I have insurance on, and it seems to be the one phone that we cannot destroy no matter how hard we try! lol Now, in my son's case, I got him an Otter Box phone case that is so thick it would be easier to break into Fort Knox than it would be to bust his phone!

Luckily, I haven't experienced such phone trouble. It's really disgusting when you can't use it in emergency situations.

I go through chargers faster than babies go through diapers! It seems like every week I am having to replace my charger!
