An Eventful Drive on the Way to Get Some Lunch

On the way to get lunch today, my husband and I sat at red light patiently waiting for it to turn green. It’s at an intersection marked no turn on red, but it’s unlikely we could have made a turn even if it were legal. Cars were coming fast and furious. At the green light, my husband took his foot off the brake only to be cut off by a van carrying home medical supplies. It was going full bore. When we caught up to him at the next red light (… he decided to stop that time), my husband noticed the driver was texting, no doubt getting directions. He made a (safe) left turn a few intersections later onto a residential street. A little farther down the same street, we saw a fire truck and a squad car parked across the intersection. People routinely drive too fast down this street and we’ve seen several accidents over the years, some of them right at this intersection. One car, a little farther up the street, even straddled the k-rail. It must have been hauling. We made the forced right in this intersection. I didn’t notice wrecked car or anyone injured, but I did see a man standing in the middle of the street wearing nothing more than what he entered the world with.In that brief moment, I didn’t notice any obvious injuries. He stood with one foot in front of the other, his hands in before him, palms up. It struck me almost as an attitude of prayer. I have no idea what was going on or what has happened to him since then .There have been no news reports. The sad and worrisome thing is that three more emergency vehicles, including a paramedic truck, passed us on their way to that intersection.

That sounds interesting, I wonder what was going on with that guy. Maybe he was intoxicated? but that still doesnt explain a fire truck there

That he was intoxicated is a pretty safe bet, I'd say. But as for the rest, I don't know. It was all just so weird.

Goodness me! What a journey! I wonder what on earth the man was doing/had been doing to be caught in such a position.

It's unsettling to pass the scene of accidents isn't it? There's always the feeling that 'it could have been me'.

That's just it. As far as I could tell, there was no accident, just an intoxicated guy standing in the middle of the street in his birthday suit. How he got there, why he got there and what he was doing there are all up for grabs.

Maybe the guy was high and they dispatched all units for caution?

No doubt the guy was loaded. Er... intoxicated. But I can't imagine he'd be such a threat it would take a total of the personnel of three squad cars, a fire truck and a paramedic vehicle to subdue him. ... It's not like he could be carrying a concealed weapon.

Yes. I have little idea what was going on. I assume there will be something in the paper tomorrow.
