A Dizzy Blonde...Again

While in the pool waiting for my “Water Aerobics Class” to start, I was chatting with some friends and lost my footing and went under the water, it was a creepy feeling and an uncomfortable one because I couldn't stand up. I knew there was a string of floats marking a lane in the pool next to me and I reached for it and got back on my feet, My friends were on their way to me to help and when I popped up they asked if I was alright. The answer was I don't know.... I told them what it felt like and we talked about symptoms but had no idea what was going on. The dizzy feeling went away, I got a spot near the pool wall and enjoyed the exercise, no other symptoms.... The next morning I swept the kitchen floor and shook the rugs outside. When I bent over with the dust pan to clean up the little pile of stuff on the floor, I almost fell in the kitchen trash can. I was dizzy... And I realized I had Vertigo again. (the vertigo was the reason I went under the water in the pool.) Vertigo is a sensation of spinning that is related to problems with the inner ear. The first time I had no idea what was going on as I bounced off the walls. Walking was difficult because the house was spinning. I phoned my doctor and told him what was happening and he saw me on the spot. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is what I had, I was told to look on YouTube for a demonstration of the Epley Maneuver. It was easy and I was better in 24 hours. It happened around this past Christmas again. Every few minutes I felt dizzy. I found the video below, got to my bed and piled pillows to get the right angles to do the Epley Maneuver (video) from YouTube. (see below) It worked and I feel much better today. Have you had Vertigo? It is certainly a strange feeling to be that dizzy! It reminds me of the house spinning in the movie The Wizard of OZ.

I am glad you were ok and had friends around to help! Yes, I have had vertigo twice. I had an inner ear infection and didn't know it. I got so dizzy I began throwing up and couldn't stop. Hubby took me to the ER and they couldn't make me stop until they knocked me out. I had to spend the night in the hospital! That has been many years ago and it hasn't bothered me since. I do hope to never have that happen again! I am glad you are feeling better. Take care of yourself and be careful!

Wow, I'm glad I didn't get sick to my stomach. That would have been awful. It was scary the first time and in the water it never even crossed my mind, but the dizziness the next day made me think how lucky I was when it happened in the pool... Glad it has reoccurred to you.

@PainsOnSlate It has been many years since I drank enough to get the "bed spins" and throw up, but that is exactly what it felt like. I'm glad you didn't get sick from it! :)

No, I do not have vertigo, but my husband suffers of vertigo since he was young. I have printed the Epley Maneuver so I am ready to help him as soon as he feels dizzy.

@PainsOnSlate Sometimes it helps, but not all the time. When the vertigo is more serious, he has to take medications, he is not even able to get up from the bed.

i'm so glad that yer doc told'ja 'f this video, 'tis most helpful. what a horrifyin' ''xperience to've had't the pool! nothin' like feelin' yer drownin' 'long with the other :( i'd ne'er gotten vertigo 'til i got 'floxed'. it mostly strikes with curves'n the road, turnin' any direction'n foot 't a usually normal pace, etc. houses 'n floors spinnin' aint my idea'f a good time. that bein' said though, i do prefer those to the roadway turnin' upside down.

@PainsOnSlate i hope so, too. nobody seems to comprehend the cause'f such?? i'm beginnin' to think 'tis linked to the benign cysts'n my brain (proud owner'f 14 't last count). think that's the troubles with the speech/walkin 'n such also. all're worse with barometric pressure changes. my theory? causes those tissues to swell 'n put pressure where it ought not.

@crazyhorseladycx Barometric pressure can be a pain at times. (I said the B word and Mylot wouldn't let me post it...) My middle son had migraines (thank goodness grew out of it) but a change in the weather would trigger the little guy at about the age of 5...

Yikes. I drove home from the Y that afternoon and thankfully it was a straight as an arrow road... It would be really creepy to have the earth move under my car... I hope you can find a fix for yourself.

OH gosh...the owner of the quilt shop has been having bouts of vertigo. I don't think I could stand it. I had a sinus drainage problem not long ago that was making me dizzy and nauseous due to the dizziness. I got a nose spray prescription and thank the good Lord, I've not had any more issues with it.

Glad to hear you found a fix. The Vertigo is fixed with the video maneuver fir me. There was more than a year between the first and second and a few months between the last two. I hope it stays away for a long time.

Oh how awful. I'm glad you're better. Mom got vertigo due to dehydration, turns out she'd not had a drink in over a day and some of the fluid in her inner ear had crystalized, she never really recovered from it.

I'm sorry about your mom, my daughter's MIL killed herself by not drinking anything until it was too late when the family realized it... If you ever get vertigo, give the video a try because it really works on this type of vertigo...

Luckily there were friends with you who helped you out immediately. you should take caution till the problem is straightened out. Or stay in safe places till then.

I have never experienced vertigo but I know how awful it can be. Thankfully you didn't actually fall over or stay under water when you had those two episodes, they must have been scary.

I've not had vertigo as such, but I had an ear infection which affected my balance, so I have an inkling what it's like.

That would be intimidating. I have only ever suffered from vertigo when I have had a fever. Then, laying on the bed, the entire room would spin around me.
