A New Color For Me

When my husband and I were at the Chicago Garden and Flower show last month, they had some flowers for sale. I am a huge fan of hyacinths and I feel like we can never have enough. All of them I have planted have spread slowly and every spring we have more. I believe we now have about 45 hyacinths.
I saw a color at the show I don't have and so had to get a couple of them. So this deep rich pink is a new color for me. I do have pink but not this particular dark pink. My other pink ones are of a lighter color. Enjoy.

They are such a hardy flower. Once they bloom it seems they are around for weeks. The smell is wonderful they remind me of lilacs.

@fishtiger58 Beautiful mixture of pinks you have.
Your garden must be lovely no wonder the lady bugs are attracted.

@infatuatedbby I actually don't think the orange ladybugs go for flowers and such. I have heard they serve no purpose like our native red ones do.

@fishtiger58 I never saw yellow. It would go with your tulip color scheme. I have a pink landscape in the front of the house, and blues in the back. One side is a rock garden mixed with pink, purple, white, and whatever else the deer won't eat.

@DianneN I have seen yellow but they are quite rare, If it kills me I'm going to find one. We have light and dark pink, light and dark purple, a salmon color, and white

I love hyacinths- a tropical look but a hearty plant- I don't know if we could gtow them quite as abundantly here in Canada though

You should try, they are pretty hardly plants, and the blooms stay around for weeks. I love that about them.

@MarymargII A few years ago I bought some hyacinth bulbs that claimed they were orange. The pic on the front showed them a deep orange. I had to have them. They turned out a light salmon color. While I still love that color I wanted the deep deep orange ones, I was disappointed.

I have a bit of a problem with the critters digging up my bulbs too, thankfully they only take a few before they find something else to eat. Oh yes the smell of hyacinths is heaven.

I used to plant different varieties of flowers in our front yard and backyard. But two years ago the city doubled the amount they used to charge us for water consumption. And we are not even allowed to use sprinklers to water the grass. I am not planting flowers and vegetables in our yard this year.

@fishtiger58 it is not a very bright color, but it is soothing to the eye, in my opinion.

What a gorgeous color! My husband and I used to plant a lot of roses. We also planted what's become a rather large lilac tree. Those are the things I miss at the old house now. But I've taken pictures so I can have them to remember. :) You're going to enjoy those flowers for a very long time to come! :)
