Last night I heard the twiit from my whatsApp. I checked it and I had a message and a picture that Dixie, my best friend, had taken of Humberto with his new born grandson.
The picture and messages were from Ecuador, where Andrés, their son, lives with his wife.
A second later, another whatsApp. "We are allright. No electricity in most of the country. Earthquake 7.8 Richter." Wow!
It chilled me, more so because outside rain came over my house in buckets. I went to sleep.
This morning I turned on the TV on news. Santiago, my Santiago, was flooded. There were 5 million people with no water here and besides that, the heavy rain plus some unfinished works near the river had caused the river to overflow and many street to collapse.
The city is a mess. From the news I gathered that the damages would be great although we don´t know yet the end of this as it is still raining and it won´t stop until after midday.
Tomorrow I have dentist, but I will cancell it.
Nature is not behaving here

@Asylum I know. And when there are terrorist acts (isn´t this a terrorist act done by nature?), people all over the world can be nearby.

True. But many times the people we love have those problems. When there´s a bomb in England, there could be a person we know even if it is far away.
I am cozy here, but I don´t know if some of my friends have no water. And who would have thought that my closest friends went to see their just born grandson and they landed into an earthquake

Our plans do sometimes get interrupted. I am glad that your friends were alright although without power.

I´m glad too. The aftershocks (is that the word?) have been over 65 up to now.

Many people will have problems in their houses. Not all roofs are completly waterproof.

@Marcyaz I just called Leticia as her house is not in the best part of town. But she was safe and sound although many of her neighbors have problems.

Yes, the Ring of Fire seems to be really busy popping earthquakes and volcanoes as well.

Nature is doing very scary things all over. I am hoping we don't have a big earthquake in Tokyo. They had torrential rains as well as the two big earthquakes down in Kyushu and people had to evacuate because of landslides.
Hope your families and you stay safe in all this.

These rains have gotten out of hand here. It is the El Niño phenomenon, they say.

I am thankful that I am cozy at home and that my house does not leak.

I don´t know what the climate is now in Ecuador. Sometimes rain could add to the problem.

I told the people near me that I have water. And when I told my brother next door yesterday that I had more that I would need, he reminded me that he also had a swimming pool

Yes, I think nature is reacting to so much devastation done to it. In our country, there are places where water is becoming scarce and rain is unlikely to come because of the El Nino phenomenon.

El Niño causes a lot of damage depending on many factors. And so does La Niña.
