The "Jungle Book" is Delightful

Today my husband and I took two of our grandchildren to go see the "Jungle Book," based on the novel by Rudyard Kipling.
When our daughters were young, my husband loved to read the "Jungle Book" to them. Of course, we saw the cartoon version.
The new one, created almost entirely by graphic artists, is amazing!
Are you wondering if it will be too scary for your children? Let them watch the movie trailer. It has been intentionally designed to show the scariest scenes so parents can use it to decide if it is appropriate for their children.
As for our family ... from age 13 to age 71, we all loved it!

@JudyEv and @ElizabethWallace - I was pleased when I saw the director interviewed on TV and he said that they intentionally put the scary scenes in the trailer so parents would know if the movie is appropriate for their kids. More movie makers should do that! Such a simple thing to do.

I think so too. It sure surprises me that they did something so logical.

Did Disney stick to the original, or did they remove the life lessons as they do with fairy tales?

As best I can remember, this one followed the original book more closely than the cartoon version did. However, they could not get everything from the book into the movie, of course. They did keep a couple of the best songs from the cartoon, which I enjoyed.

@ElizabethWallace - I have to say I like some of the new lessons, though. As the mother of four daughters, I always hated the idea of a girl waiting for a man to rescue her so she could live "happily ever after." Huh?! Instead, the newer Disney movies have the young women take a more active role in what makes them happy and, in some cases like "Frozen," Prince Charming turned out to be a bad guy who was just trying to take over the woman's kingdom! There are some good life lessons in these newer stories.

@DeborahDiane Great. They removed all the lessons from the Grimm's Fairy Tales when they made their movies. It left the stories with unintended "lessons" that are not what we should teach our kids.

I think it is a wonderful story and from what I saw it looks indeed like it is a great movie.

@DeborahDiane That alone is very encouraging since so many things long anticipated end up being disappointing.

The new movie is soooo much better than the cartoon .... although the cartoon would be better for really young children.

Ha Ha! That is funny that he thought "bless his heart" was a term of endearment. Anyone who has lived in the South (I lived in Texas for 25 years), knows that "bless his heart" can be the ultimate insult! LOL

It's a wonderful story and Disney did a much better job this time of making a movie about it!

I haven't seen the movie, but based on the trailer and the voice cast, I'm expecting this will be a good one.
I believe it's topped the box office this week...

I think I heard it had the best April opening of any movie ever. It is pretty spectacular and the young actor in it did a wonderful job ... especially for a kid who had never acted before!

The book was wonderful. I bought my husband a beautifully illustrated copy of the Rudyard Kipling book when our children were little and my husband loved reading it to them.

We watched the movie along with kids in April last year(right, in April 2016). We thoroughly enjoyed the characters- mowgli, Akela the Wolf, Bagheera(Black panther), Baloo Bhallu(Bear), and more characters.
We saw the movie in Hindi. It was dubbed with the sound of different bollywood actors, and this made for even more of the fun.
But our expectations had been raised and we felt it fell just a bit short of our expectations.
Yet it was overall enjoyable.
