I Think I'm a Little Tired

Whoops! I just found myself sitting at my desk here at work sleeping, with my hands on the keyboard and a file open on my computer. Somehow, in the middle of typing a report, I drifted off to sleep! Thank goodness it was after-hours and everyone else at the office had gone home for the day! Wow, I can't believe I did that! That reminds me of years ago when I was doing my internship for my college degree. I was working days interning at an agency, and working nights at a different job to pay the bills. One day during the internship I was sitting in a meeting with my boss, and I fell asleep in the chair as he was talking to me! Thank goodness he knew my situation, and was a great boss, and we had a good laugh about it later! Have you ever fallen asleep on the job before, or somewhere where you shouldn't have fallen asleep?

You just brought back a memory that I had long forgotten. I worked as the secretary for the guidance department of our local school system. They had long and quite boring meetings. At one meeting I was having a difficult time keeping my eyes open. I kept yawning. Everything I did was not helping to keep my eyes open. It wasn't until my head bobbed so hard that I almost fell out of my chair that everyone noticed my dilemma. I said I was sorry, not that I found the meeting to be boring, I was just overtired. LOL. After that meeting they decided that I didn't need to attend the meetings and that notes could be taken by one of the counselors and given to me the next day to type.

@ElusiveButterfly He better be a good sport! He should be happy that we are just taking a picture of him instead of writing him up for sleeping on the job!

We have a guy on our staff that falls asleep in his chair at every staff meeting we have. EVERY staff meeting! He never contributes to anything we do anyway, so we just let him sleep. But we do take a picture of him sleeping in every meeting, and we are going to make a big photo collage to give him when he retires (he is getting close to retirement).

I was working night shift for a while and found it hard. I don't mean all night but evenings. Coffee helped.

I go through brief periods where my body just wants to crash and burn. If I can power through those moments, I'm usually good for hours on end after that. Sometimes, when it just gets to be too much, I literally can take a 5-minute power nap and wake up feeling fresh and ready to go!

@Bluedoll Every now and then I'll wake up from a nap feeling worse than before. Thankfully, it doesn't happen often. Or, I'll tell myself that I'm going to take a 10-minute nap, and then wake up like 2 or 3 hours later! lol

That happened to my daughter once, we were on a 4-hour drive to visit my parents, and she was eating a bag of Doritos in the back seat and within 5 minutes of us starting our trip, she fell asleep with a chip in her hand, holding it about an inch from her mouth. I kid you not, she slept the entire 4-our trip holding that Dorito an inch from her mouth, and she never moved the whole time! It was the funniest thing ever!

Oh wow! Glad he was a good sport about it, he could have easily been cruel over it and that could have set you back a lot! Hmm, I fell asleep as an in home aide, but the patient (my ex's great grandmother) wasn't awake yet so it really didn't matter too much. Every other job has been physical labor, hard to fall asleep then.

When I was in college, I worked at Wal-Mart, and we had a guy that worked nights that would clock in, and then go back to the furniture section, climb on the futon displays, and sleep his entire shift! He eventually got caught and fired, but it was a long time before he got caught. Surprisingly, none of the other employees ever ratted him out!

@moffittjc I would have been the first to rat him out! Stocking is hard and if you are having to pull someone else's weight it's not fair! I wonder if he ever regretted doing that?

@ScribbledAdNauseum He was a sales associate, so he didn't really have to do any stocking. Back then, Wal-Mart had separate employees that would come in and do the stocking. The store we worked out was always busy at night, but not usually back in the sporting goods section. It was always quiet back there.

I had an art appreciation class in college. It was at 7 am, and the professor, who had a lovely German accent, showed us slides of art for two hours while he discussed them. Gawd that was torture.

Once when I was in high school, a friend and I went to a Motley Crue concert in Ft. Lauderdale. I was a big fan of the band, but he didn't like them so much, so he slept pretty much through the entire concert! If I didn't know this kid so well, I would have suspected he passed out because he was too drunk, but he didn't even drink! To this day I still give him a hard time about sleeping at that concert!

@ElizabethWallace I remember one time in college I was having trouble getting to sleep at night, and one of my roommates--who was taking a music appreciation class at the time--suggested that I listen to classical music. I thought, why not give it a try? The funny thing is, when I started listening to it, I became energized and even more awake! For some reason, classical music really gets me going!

@moffittjc My excuse was the early hour and the lullaby nature of the professors voice. Neither would be true at a concert.

I haven't fallen asleep on the job but I have fallen asleep with my hands on the keyboard at home. I woke up when someone tried to take my computer away from me. Actually, depending on the position I am sitting in, I could fall asleep while typing every evening.

I've had that happen to me several times at night when I've been myLotting on my laptop! I'll get comfortable in my recliner, start typing away on myLot, and then next thing I know I'm waking up from a nice slumber!

Fell asleep in the tub. It simply couldn't be helped. I think we've all taken that snooze. It can happen at anytime. I hope you're able to obtain some rest.

Wow, I have to say that the tub would be an interesting place to fall asleep! Luckily, you didn't slip under the water and drown! Years ago, I had a buddy of mine pass out in a hot tub with his girlfriend sitting next to him. She was so upset that she left and went home and left him in the hot tub! I'm not sure how long he stayed passed out in the hot tub, but I imagine he was there for quite a while!

Once or twice I've nearly dropped off typing letters. It's a bit embarrassing if someone catches you.

I'm always afraid of falling asleep in a public place, because there's no telling what other people would do to you! It could be something bad, or it could be something embarrassing!

@moffittjc I have never really believed that I could fall deeply asleep in public but I guess it's possible. Plenty of people do.

@moffittjc haha yeah it was a good thing he was very understanding. Not every boss can be like that. I did fall asleep in school once. I was really lacking sleep in high school because of my ex ( the mean one I've told you about ). Many sleepless nights caused by him made me fall asleep in class. But luckily no one noticed. I once fell asleep at my computer desk at home. Again, due to lack of sleep because of ex. I was actually talking to him on MSN at the time so wow that was a long time ago. lol I learned then that total lack of sleep can make people fall asleep just about anywhere because I was in the most awkward position when I woke up lol Like half sitting on the chair but kind of slipping down on the floor. Hard to explain it actually.

@VivaLaDani13 I can't quite remember, but probably not that long since we were in line for something. I'm sure that as soon as the line started moving, he woke up (or maybe it was a case of sleep walking? lol). Oh...sorry, I forgot that us Americans say "line" but you Aussies say "queue."
