The Bluebirds of Happiness are trying to live at my house

Right now the bluebirds are not very happy, but hopefully that will change. So far Mr. and Mrs. Bluebird built three nests on our front porch - at the top of a pillar where they are safe and dry. A nice safe place right? Well, safe maybe but not big enough to support the nests they build. Their nest are very light and airy and as soon as the wind blows, bye-bye birdie nest. They don't give up, I'll say that for them. They are busy bees for sure. Back and forth over and over and over. Yesterday 1/2 of their nest blew down and it's not looking to good for them. Yesterday evening my husband looked at the nest and proclaimed, "I think I'll build them a bird house." He hopes to build one that he can slip into the spot they are using and maybe they will get the hint. I looked up bluebird house plans and now he is out in his workshop attempting to be a designed/builder. The photo shows them on the roof, waiting for me to be out of their line of sight, so they can continue construction! You can see their nest and how is was overflowing. Photo is mine.

This does not look like a solid nest, I hope that they will use the one your husband is building for them

@AbbyGreenhill They are shy, it will take some days before they explore the little new house. Since yesterday afternoon I hear a cuckoo bird singing in the garden, this is the most annoying bird in the world.

@LadyDuck They are gone, have not been back yet. I hope they show up and find that birdhouse. I don't care for the mocking bird's noise, which is the state bird of TN.

He put it up a little while ago - I have not seen the birds at all since early this morning, I hope they didn't switch neighborhoods!

Aw, poor birds worked so hard and all of their hard work was blown away. Good thing your husband is building a house for them-that is so nice! Reminds me of my faith in God...We try so hard to fix things ourselves and to make things happen in our lives when God is saying let me build/fix it for you and everything will be okay, & your "nest" won't blow away in the wind.

@AbbyGreenhill What is the status now? Have the bluebirds decided to stay in the nest your husband built?

@silvermist They have not found the birdhouse, shown no interest...they flew through the porch a few times yesterday and landed where their nest had been, but they so far have not started building a new one.

Birds are amazing and they can find anywhere to build a nest (places us humans would never think of). That is too bad they were not having success, but it is awfully sweet your husband is building them a bird house!

That is so cool that you can watch them do that and now build a house for them. We had some little birds build a nest in my wreath one year and layed 4 little eggs in it, but a spring snow storm came and they left leaving the eggs behind

Awh, that's a shame. I am not up on all the birds names, etc. but I do enjoy watching the bluebirds.

Well hopefully with him building the bird house will help them have a home and the wind won't knock down their nest. I love watching the blue birds and how they work and hunt for food. We get alot in my yard too
