You don't even have to curse me or call me names.
Just send me a link to some site you want me to join, and I'll gladly block you quickly. 
I don't care to join any other 'earning' sites, and if I did, I'd ask you if you knew of any.
I'm not here to be your referral for anything.
I'm here because I like being here...I'm not here because I enjoy earning on the Interwebs.
Of course, no...that doesn't mean you can have my earnings...I'll take them if they want to give them to me.

It actually doesn't specifically mention anywhere that you can't send unsolicited links via PM, I don't believe

@JolietJake @owlwings It's true, there is nothing in the guidelines that says you cannot send referral links via PM. Traditionally, PM's have been considered acceptable means to give referral links, since it is not allowed in the discussion area. But if it becomes a problem and is abused, report it and I can take action. If it is something that is becoming a problem site wide, then I am open to the conversation on banning it's use for that purpose.

@JolietJake I think it's covered under the general prohibition on spam. Like @owlwings said, spammers are banned regardless of whether they choose to do it in PMs or discussions. It's not welcome here.

It might be different if they asked 'Hey, do you want to join a site?' but twice this week I have got messages 'Join this site *link*' and it kind of ticks me off just a bit

I have yet to receive such messages. I would block them too. Only seen a few posts that push the sites and I report them.

Sometimes the best way to deal with it is to report the spamming to the proper authorities and let them deal with it... in this case, the 'proper authorities' being the site they're spamming about. It's kind of satisfying when the site is serious about its members not promoting their links via spamming.
