Movers and packers

Have you moved from one city to another or even from one State to another? We did, years ago.
It was filled with emotion having to leave behind friends and family and most important of all having to leave behind a place where we had lived for so many years. But with bigger plans we had to take this decision.
My husband had the facility to engage the best movers and packers at Company's cost. They arrived on the appointed day and started going about professionally, wrapping up each and every item big and small. We were just spectators. They shifted everything onto a track and moved while we took a van and started our travel with two dogs and our maid.
We reached our destination and waited for the truck to arrive. They did arrive the next day. They unpacked each and every item and placed them where I wanted them to. What a neat job that was.
What has been your experience?

Transporting specially glassware and stuff needs careful handling and these professional do a good job of that. Everything arrived safe except the fridge got a slight scratch from the steel cupboard which was next to it in the truck. They had a protective gunny bag covering. .

@allknowing Anytime we had to move the piano we always got professional people. It is really, really heavy but quite fragile at the same time. I'd hate it to be dropped.

@JudyEv A piano I suppose could not have been better handled than a professional

I'm glad it all went well for you. We've moved several times and it has always been effortless, just as you described. This last move eleven years ago was a bit touch and go though, as unknown to us they were still laying the carpet in our new home at midnight the day before we arrived!

Bad enough one is emotionally charged and to take care of all that in the midst of tears would have been difficult Val. Glad that you too had no issues. What made you move several times?

We have pretty much always moved ourselves. Our longest move was from Southern California to Northern California, and for that one we moved the essential things ourselves, and had a moving van for the remainder (things we had temporarily had in storage). The day we moved into the house, it was pouring rain, and we had a very steep driveway. Not fun.

I do not think we could have done that the way these professionals handled it.

We moved from CA to CO two years ago, my husband went first to find us a place and I stayed behind and packed up everything. On the day of the move I made sure that my sister was in charge of the loading of the truck she had lots of moving experience. She made everything for except for one item. Saying good-bye was one of the hardest things I've ever done. When we arrived in Colorado and unpacked the truck nothing had been broken. With my sister's ability to know how to load and my ability to pack boxes properly, it was a success. I say all the time though that I don't ever want to move again.

@allknowing, it was long with the pets and the youngest child with us. It took 2 full days with all the stops for food and potty breaks and fill-ups.

That was a pretty long distance to travel. Yes. The worst is the good-byes.

We moved twice from one country to another, the first time from Italy to France and ten years ago from France to Switzerland. As we had to cross a border I had to present the list of everything we have packed and were moving to our new house. A real nightmare, I still have the lists.
