We've all seen bird's nests. Whether in a tree or a birdhouse most of us have seen the wonderful view of nature that still manages to bring a sense of wonder to our hearts. What makes this different is that this bird's nest has been built in a fake wreath...a foot from the front door of my dad's house!
The day before last when I came over to see my dad, usually not impressed by nature, pulled me outside to show me what I had walked by, oblivious. And right there, inside the middle of the fake wreath my dad's wife had made and hanged, was a perfect little nest filled with beautiful, blue eggs.
My dad said the mother flies away every time they go outside, which is natural because it probably startled her. Today, as I approached their front door I saw a bird, that was black, fly out of the wreath. I had finally seen the bird that gave us such a gift.
We, of course, aren't touching it. I was afraid the awful storms last night would harm the nest, but thank goodness, it didn't.

@AmbiePam I know your dad remarried, and that she was from some other town, I guess that she has moved to your area? I had wondered about that.

@GardenGerty Yes, she lived about an hour away, in Clinton, Oklahoma. She sold her house immediately (she keeps that money for her kids, my dad's house goes to my sister and me), but since her parents, kids, and grandchildren live in Clinton she goes back often.

What a neat blessing to see this action so close. I had friends years ago that ended up not using their vine covered front porch during nesting season because a cardinal family was using it as their home. It is neat to observe how nature really works.

I am so glad that the storms didn't disturb the nest.

Great shot, it will be fun to watch those eggs hatch and listen to the babies cry for food.
