New bird at the feeder today - Rose Breasted Grosbeak

So I was changing sides on an album this morning, and saw something out the window, but wasn't sure what I was seeing. Black and white bird, big red spot on its breast. The camera was in another room, and I hoped it would stay still long enough for me to go get it. It did, but the photo is unfortunately not real good, but the best I could do in a hurry...it flew off right after I snapped it. I had never seen one before, so I went to Google and typed in a description, and found it was a Rose Breasted Grosbeak. Hopefully, it will come back sometime and I'll get a better photo...

Very pretty bird. I find it is hard to get pictures of birds. Sometimes one will land on my balcony, but when I get the camera, usually it flies away when I open the Patio door.

Birds are really hard to photograph. Vince belongs to a 'Crap Bird Photography' site. Everyone puts up these terrible photos of birds and they have great fun slinging off and making fun of the photo.

@JolietJake Yes they seem to have very good eyesight and sense the slightest movement.

My feeder is right outside the big picture window and usually they see my shadow and take off on me

@JolietJake Are they a common bird elsewhere? Many of our cockatoos were never seen this far south in days gone by but now they are a pest.

@JudyEv They're common farther north and south, we're in their migration path it appears

You were lucky to be able to grab this photo. When I try to photograph birds or butterflies , they escape so fast that I can never be lucky to take a picture of any of them.

After looking at their normal habitat grounds, I was lucky to see one here, twice as lucky to get the photo

I guess we're in the migration path of them, a few other people I have spoken with have seen them recently.

I have never soon one, myself. I am sure they are very pretty. I hope he comes back so you can get a better picture of him. (I hate it when that happens!) I don't think we have them around here.

I didn't know we had them, I spent the first minute just staring at it afraid to move to go get the camera

@JolietJake I did the same thing the first and only time I have seen a painted bunting here. I didn't get a picture of him!

56 years, first I have seen here. I'll have to ask Dad later if he's seen any of them.
