I know enough about the plant to know that you aren't supposed to eat it, but what I didn't know is that even touching the plant can make you sick.
Our last house had a few plants growing and I thought that they would look gorgeous against on the shady side of the house so I began to dig some up to transfer.
I was doing fine until about lunch time when I began to feel sick to my stomach for no reason.
It got to the point where I was really beginning to feel ill, so I sent an hour or so laying down. Once it passed, I began to wonder about my touching the plant and sure enough, I found that in some cases, it can actually go straight through your skin. I had actually poisoned myself.
Just a heads up. If you want to transplant them... be sure to use gloves!!

I know that it is toxic, and I have heard of children poisoned after having eaten the flowers of this plant, but not at this point : we have the habit to offer/buy lily of the valley on May 1st in France, and I never heard of an experience like yours. It seems that you are very sensible to this plant, and it was perhaps not a good idea to plant some...

You are very welcome. I went years not knowing... but never had any on my property. I love the fact that it is so easy to get the word out now!!

Wow! I did not know this. I had lily of the valley at a previous home, and I handled them quite a bit. I don't remember feeling sick afterwards. Maybe I am not one of the people who is allergic. I hope to get some for my new house. I will be sure to keep this in mind. It is one of my favorite flowers.

From what I read... everyone isn't like me. I wouldn't want anyone to experience anything other than the beauty of these little flowers!!
