~Not Complaining-Just Different~

A few days ago we told the landlord that we have the rent. He told us he would get it the next day but never came. Then today he told us he would get it tomorrow. I know landlords are busy so maybe that's all it is. I just thought it was a little strange. I am just used to "some" landlords getting their rent right away and if your a day or two late most of the time their not nice about it at all. We were trying to pay him early but he hasn't come yet. Lol, this is the first landlord we have had that takes his time to get his rent! Like I said in the title-not complaining just find it a little different that's all. So, how is your landlord if you have one?

Our landlord is a junkyard dawg! If we are late, the phone starts ringing. If we are late a week, they are at our door with hand out!!

@LovingMyBabies and they do little to improve their property too. They ask us to fix it and they will buy the materials. However, if you work all week long, do you really feel like working on a place that isn't your own?

@ElusiveButterfly I'm sorry. =( That is more what I am used to from our past landlords.

@ElusiveButterfly Not many people want to work after they get off work. We had a landlord like that in our old house. Glad this one is different.

It seems that most landlords want it right away. Some are understand. At our first apartment, my husband and I were usually pretty good about paying it on time. Although once or twice we couldn't pay until a week, week and a half after the first of the month. We'd tell our landlord, and he was pretty good about it. Some are flexible, while others aren't.

@dodo19 Yeah I know! We have had some really tough landlords in the past so this one is a breath of fresh air for us. It will take us some time to get used to though. Lol.

Having been a landlord, I've heard so many excuses why the rent could not be paid on time. If the rent check was late, how could I make the mortgage payment, replace the hot water heater, pay for snow removal....pay the taxes.....replace the roof. I am ecstatic that I am no longer a landlord.

@Morleyhunt I am sure you came and got the rent when someone said they had it early, didn't you? Lol, I am used to tough landlords-this I am not used to at all. I could never be a landlord-everyone would live for free because I would feel bad asking them to leave for non payment-and I would be struggling to pay my own bills. Thank God I'm not one so I don't have to worry about that.

Our landlord is real good and when he decided to sell the house since he has moved to Tennessee gave us the first chance at buying the house @ a great price and waited while sis got her credit in order with the bank and on Wednesday they will close on the house and payments are going to be 300 dollars less than what we paid in rent each month

@LovingMyBabies I prefer to rent rather than buy.In china ,house means "home".No house means "homeless".

ive had different experiences with my previous landlords. one was living a block away so i go to his house and hand him my rent. one was living away so i used to deposit it to her bank account. one was living in the same building so that was more convenient. and many others.. good thing is they were not pushy or abusive when it comes to collecting it.

My mother's landlord was awful. She would tell him about all the things wrong with the house and he refused to send someone to fix them. She broke her tendons and had to have so much surgery on her foot because she slipped going down the front steps of the house because he had them tiled and it was a rainy day. Some landlords are absolutely horrible.

@IvySaysHi We have had landlords like that-we call them slumlords. They don't want to fix anything but they want their money! Not right.

I don't rent but I would assume most landlords expect their rent on the 1st. Sounds like you have a good one there

I think that is a good thing really as it seems he trusts you. And he knows you have the rent. Hopefully you won't have to call on it before he comes for it!

@JudyEv Yeah that's true. I just thought it was odd because we are so used to the opposite with the landlords we have had in the past.

My landlady lives in the same building where I stay. I pay her my rent every 1st day of the month. She doesn't approach me to get the payment. It's the other way around. I have to approach her to give my payment so that I could get my receipt.

If I were to be late with my rent I'd get charged extra. How funny that your landlord doesn't care like what we think a "normal" landlord would.

It sounds like he's very busy and that he has a lot of trust in you that you'll have it when he comes along for it. I think that is a good sign. The last time we had to pay rent was when our son was away at university. I had to provide a year's worth of checks to cover the rent for each month that he was living there when he signed the lease agreement. It made it really easy as far as knowing that he had the checks but there were a couple of times that it didn't come off but our son told us that he was out of the country during those times.
