Parties, Parties Everywhere

I remember when we always seemed to be going to 21st birthday parties. Around the same time there were a lot of weddings to attend. Over the years we moved on, got older and 50th birthdays became the social events of the year. Now it seems to be all 70th birthday parties that we are receiving invitations for. We have two to go to this Saturday. One is a lunch for a good friend. She is catering for this herself. The other is in the evening at an hotel. We will each pay for our own meal. I think we'll need a nap in between. What are the major functions you're attending at the moment, if any? Sorry for the terrible photo but I was trying to find a festive one in a hurry. :)

How long since you've seen your siblings? Sisters? Brothers? Both?

We don't have/won't be having grandchildren so there won't be a 'second round' of these types of events.

In less than two weeks my husband also turns 70, as many of our friends. It's not too bad until we attend parties.

@JudyEv We are having a party at a restaurant with some friends, our niece and her fiancee. The birthday of one of our friend is only 6 days after the one of my husband, they plan to celebrate together.

Yes, it really brings it home how we're getting older when we attend these parties. I will be 70 in July so have to decide what I want to do - if anything. What have you planned to celebrate your husband's birthday?

@crazyhorseladycx I don't like big gatherings where I don't know anyone but I enjoy getting together with smaller groups of good friends.

@JudyEv It is really strange, we are seeing all our friends kids grow up, get married and have babies. So far mine are not in that stage my older ones are in college.

I can understand that. It won't be too many years and the type of celebration might change. :)

As near as I know I am not invited to any weddings or other big celebrations this year, and I am glad. It gets so expensive to buy gifts for these occasions. We are having a Mother's Day breakfast at our church on Saturday, so am looking forward to that.

With most of these 70th parties, the request is 'no presents please' which is thoughtful of them. Many will still take something but it is likely to be small or quirky.

@JudyEv That is great that they say no gifts. When we reach that age, there is not much we need.

I recently attended a dear friend's 90th Birthday party. I was so pleased as I am rarely invited anywhere. John Wood of Blue Heelers fame was here the other night with a short 2 man play. We had a free dinner after the event (steak and snag sangers cooked on the barbie). There is a group of us going to Sydney in June for a couple of days. The will be a Harbour Cruise dinner the second night and we will see Vivid. Looking forward to that.

Glad you went to the birthday party. 90 is a good age. John Wood is a great actor. It is good that these performances make it out to smaller venues as well as the big cities. I'm sure you'll enjoy your trip to Sydney. I'll look forward to reading about it all in due course.

I have just been going through old photos and tonight I found an album I had set up with my 30th Wedding Anniversary photos, we had a little Ceremony at our house and renewed our vows. Anyhow, I don't have any major functions at the moment but I'm sure there will be some just around the corner.

It's nice to have an album of these special occasions. Sometimes having all your photos on computer isn't any better than having them loose in a box.

@gudheart That's true but most of our invitation nowadays tend to say 'no presents please' which is a relief. We often still buy something but you don't feel so obliged to buy an expensive gift.

Every time when I was watching foreign movies when I was young, I always enjoyed watching people having so many parties to attend. Those parties look really fun to join. I do not have much parties here, even if there are some celebrations, mostly are just dinners in restaurant or at home, just eat, but not so much fun. Now that I have become a homely person, and I do not really attend much events anymore, especially when my children are still young. Enjoy your parties!

We groan and moan a bit when we have to go out but it just so happens that these parties are close together. We mostly prefer to stay at home too.

I don't think we have any festivities coming up soon. Our anniversary will be this month, but there won't be a party. I hope you have a wonderful time and a nap in between sounds like a good idea to me! Have fun!

I hope you enjoy your anniversary. We might have a small celebration for an anniversary and perhaps something a bit bigger for a 'significant' one. Our anniversary is 11th September so it is never forgotten. We will be celebrating 45 years. I wonder if we'll make 50? My parents made 63 years.
