Has your discussion ever been copied by another MyLotter?

I haven't noticed it with any of mine but I was just wondering if it has ever happened to anyone else. Not copied word for word but still copying your idea of the discussion. Only reasons I can see someone doing this is because they couldn't think of anything for themselves or maybe because they noticed a certain topic was getting a lot of responses. How would you react to a MyLotter copying your discussion ideas?

I have copied other articles on websites about a topic im talking about, what is the correct puncuation for that? I dont want to be accused of plagarism. I write what i say but i put what they say in it as well. As proof that im not lying i do put there name on the parts they write.

@davidalicea100 I am not sure about that one to be honest. I have a feeling that wouldn't be accepted if it was a huge a$$ article copied word for word.

This activity can be questionable. Though copying ideas is OKAY copying word per word without quoting is not. "If you steal from one author it's plagiarism; if you steal from many it's research." - Wilson Mizner

@VivaLaDani13 What do you think about this? I can always delete my post if it is not acceptable.
Ideas are not copyrightable. Anything you read can be used as your topic. On the topic of discussion ideas I thought the best way I could explain was to simply...

@Bluedoll haha I don't mind! I was confused at first. I saw the notification and I was like "I don't remember calling my discussion that!" Then I realised it was another discussion. Thought I entered the Twilight Zone then lol All is fine!

Occasionally there have been people who have copied other people's discussions word for word. That's different, I think, from what you suggest here. Most of these are detected quite quickly and will be banned because plagiarism is forbidden and copying other people's work from MyLot is an even more heinous offence. Sometimes people have complained that another member has copied their idea (rather than the actual words). It is almost impossible to prove this, however, because the same idea may quite easily occur to two people at the same time, especially if it is inspired by a topical news story or event.

@owlwings I can't believe anyone trying to get away with it. Obviously it would be picked up eventually. I wouldn't stand for it if that happened to me. It's not the worst thing in the world but it's just annoying when people don't think for themselves.

Yes, it happened and I did not even notice, but a fellow myLotter reported to the Admin the offender.

@VivaLaDani13 I remember that it was a new member who copied the three top "hot discussions".

@LadyDuck I'm glad the MyLotter was reported! I don't think it's cool to copy someone else and try to get credit for it.

Ideas are fine, we see them all the time with what we've had for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It also brings great ideas when vacations are talked about, then another person could talk about their vacation. Ideas aren't anything to worry about. It is when a person plagiarizes your article and copies it word for word that is wrong. Ideas aren't copyright. If they were there wouldn't be very many books to read.

@VivaLaDani13 No it's not, but it's okay to steal ideas. Ideas spur thoughts and thoughts lead to some great stories. I've written a few from ideas I've gotten from what I've read.

@just4him I agree with you. I admit there have been occasions where I have read some things and it does make me think of things. Like you said, if we were to see a MyLotter talking about a vacation they had, they would most likely think about a vacation they had too. Which may make them to talk about it. But yep exactly right, copying every exact word just isn't cool.

Ideas will be interpreted/presented in so many ways or forms by a writer, so it is allowed I think, but plagiarizing or copy a discussion post is a different thing and is a violation of the rules of the site.
