Love trees, hate the mess

I love trees and I have several in my yard, however, I hate the cleanup that comes with them. Right now they are shedding like crazy. Seed pods, catkins, seeds, are all over and the ground is carpeted with them. Don't get me started on the gutters. I guess there is a price to pay for every good thing. We waited all winter for spring and the mess is all part of the package. Still I won't trade my trees for no mess, I just wish they were less profuse in getting rid of their seed pods.

We looked into a gutter guard that works, we bought a cheap one a couple of years ago and figured out they didn't work. We called a few companies who made a similar product with different prices and had them over to find out what would work for us. One cost more money than anyone could afford but we found one that made sense and was in our budget. So glad we did, no more worrying about the gutters, but we still have to rake the lawns.

We had the gutter guard installed more than 6 years ago and we are happy that we did.

Will have to get one of those as it would help cut down on the amount of cleanup

@PainsOnSlate At least the gutter guards reduce the amount of work, I will look into that

I hate the helicopters from my neighbors maple trees! They land in my gardens and sprout! Ugh!

Same here. My neighbor has a Japanese elm tree and the send all their seeds over to my place and they sprout some very sturdy treelings - it that is a word

I love our trees also but I don't mind cleaning up the mess, I find it very relaxing.

Can you train them to distribute all of their sheddings into a pile?

We collect those leaves ( no pods here) and put them in the incinerator which is a good fertilizer too.

@Freelanzer - I will probably be near the top of your "bad" list, for back when I was 18 or 19 years old, I had a hand in planting thousands of trees. The work was done to "re-forest" farm land that was no longer being used for crops or for animal-raising. The last springtime and summer our crews planted, we put in more than 300-thousand trees, mostly Norway spruce seedlings. (Now you have someone you can blame for tree messes.) Have fun today. Leave the seed stuff for the squirrels. ( )

There is always an up and a down isn't there? We don't have trees really close to the house because of the risk of bushfires so blocked gutters are not usually a problem for us.
