My Earliest Surviving Possession – Seahorse Paperweight

Most things I have owned have broken, been passed on to others, worn out or just lost over the years. The earliest thing I have surviving the ravages of my life is this rather nice paperweight, containing an imitation seahorse. I bought it myself on holiday in 1977, and while other things have gone, it endures. I’m strangely attached to it for that. Do you have any early possessions you still hold dear? Arthur Chappell

That's cool. I have some shells I brought back from the ocean. Most of mine have been sold or traded for money to live. Single mom raising a child is tough sometimes.I had to get rid of some cool antiques.

@arthurchappell ...They tend to get destroyed if moved and bumped around a lot.

Your paper wight is very unique and the fact that you have been able to keep it for so long makes it all that more special. The day I was born one of my parents friends had flowers delivered to my mom in a ceramic plant holder it's very babyish, but it held special meaning to my mother. He was deployed shortly after my birth to Vietnam and never came home. My mother gave it to me when I became an adult. It has traveled back and forth across the US multiple times and survived a house fire, it remains completely intact with no chips. I will be 49 yrs old this year. I placed it in each of my children's rooms when they were baby's. It was used for varying purposes, even as a door stop, , since it's so heavy. It is something that I will keep and treasure always. It is the one item that has remained the longest.

I still have my first teddy bear, given to me as an infant. A good part of his nose is worn off, but I still have him. :)

That's beautiful Arthur. I do have some stuffed animals from my childhood. Unfortunately, I had to throw my first one out, 2 years ago, when one of my cats had an accident on it and ruined it.
