I never had school spirit

I sat at work the other day regarding some ‘team building’ (supposedly) cartoony creature on the wall. They made the initials of our department into a chant, like one would shout at sporting game type situation, and the cartoony creature holds the initials and phones in his tentacles. Oh and a couple and the manager try and get people to chant that with them now and then. I try not to roll my eyes and go back to work.
I am fine with team building exercises, IF they actually serve a useful purpose. This is does not. This I find tacky and embarrassing. I never did like school spirit stuff once I graduated from highschool. In college I never went to dorm events, and only to college functions that I thought might be relaxing and fun, like a play. I was there to learn. I was paying to learn. I was not paying to waste time building spirit with people I didn’t know nor care to know.
The stuff at work is worse, if that’s possible. I am here to get paid. If I could paid to write and be awesome you better believe I’d not be there!

@Jessicalynnt No, it's not. To be honest I did not like to go to school, I like to stay alone or to be only with people I know and like.

It doesn't seem professional office appropriate

I did a little of the school spirit thing in school. I was horribly shy I didn't do much.

We always had things going on at work to build team spirit. I think it was the only way they kept turnover down. They needed some kind of incentive to make work fun. It might have helped a little bit, but in the long run it was good to see all the crepe paper, streamers, balloons, and posters come down at the end of an event.

@just4him well this event wasnt work, but we were still basically required to go have a team building dinner out. Free food, but still, that was MY time

@Jessicalynnt I always got paid for the time I was at work. Anything else is well stupid. Employers should know better than to expect their employees to work without pay.

Trying again to say hello. I'll yippee if this takes. lol. I never could get into all that motivational stuff either. I'd rather just be left alone to do what ever is I came to do.

I want too, and often do, to a point, also don't want the finger pointed at me with accusations of not being an active supporting teammember
