The Storm After the Calm

If you watched the Kentucky Derby today you saw the torrential downpour over the track just as Lady Antebellum began singing the National Anthem. It cleared up after a few minutes, and the weather was fine for the 142nd running of the Kentucky Derby.
Things weren't so good after the race, though. Storms that had pounded the St. Louis area earlier in the day made their way to Louisville, prompting several severe thunderstorm warnings.
Thankfully, the races were done by the time the storms hit Louisville, meaning that the 167,000-plus people at Churchill Downs were not outside in severe weather when it hit.
I took this picture of a flash of lightning in the sky as the storm was approaching. (No hillbilly music fans were harmed in the taking of this photo!
)
I'm sure glad the storms waited to hit!!

A hockey player won it.
Nyquist (the winning horse) is named after Detroit Red Wings player Gustav Nyquist. I guess that means we'll have a hockey player named Secretariat win the Stanley Cup!

We had a thunderstorm here too about 8p.m. I love a good storm. Watch the Derby. The storm didn't last long.

That's a great photo.
I didn't watch the race, which I usually do. Is the winner a viable Triple Crown threat?

He's undefeated, and he was the favorite. I'd say he definitely stands a chance.
