Bill Clinton at our Granddaughter's Graduation

Our oldest granddaughter graduated from Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles today and former President Bill Clinton was the keynote speaker. His wife, Hillary, attended the graduation, as well, despite the early morning downpour of rain, followed by blistering hot sun. (Yes, they sat outside under an umbrella, like the rest of us.) President Clinton's nephew was one of the graduates. While the Secret Service would not let us near enough to get our photo taken with the Clinton's, one enterprising student had a solution. He brought a cardboard cutout of Bill Clinton to the graduation and asked people if they would like to include it in their photos. All he asked was that people use the hashtag #LMU16 when they share it on social media, because he wanted to see how many of the photos are shared! My husband and I thought it was pretty cute. It is the closest we have come to having our photo taken with a president!

Very cool! I understand the security concerns. I wonder if this young man is on his way to business stardom?

@DeborahDiane Ohhhh, well that explains the rights to use the image question I was wondering about.

I thought it was very entrepreneurial of the young man who showed up with the cardboard cut-out of Bill Clinton. By the way, it was not his nephew, Taylor Clinton, who brought the cut-out!

This was a very smart thing for this grad to do. I bet lots of people wanted the same shot you have. I have heard Presidents speak before. Exciting, wasn't it?

Yes, it was very exciting. In addition, I was quite impressed that Hilary Clinton was also there for several hours ... through the rain, humidity and (later) the glaring sun. She looked very pleasant and cheerful through it all, too.

@DeborahDiane It was a family event for them, just like you, right? Bill spoke because they had a nephew graduating, didn't you say?

You are quite right! Since this is the closest we could come to having our picture taken with the former president, this is a fun way to still have a memory of the day!

I thought it was a cute idea for the student to bring this cardboard President Clinton. After all, there is no way that everyone would have been able to get their pictures taken with him!

That young man will go far, I suspect. He anticipated that people would want a photo, and provided the next best thing. Congratulations to your granddaughter.
