Dollars and Pesos Around The World

Philippines
May 10, 2016 12:33am CST
Mylot pays in US dollars (USD), which is equivalent to 46.97 Philippine Pesos (PHP) as of today, May 10, 2016, but we also know that many other countries' currencies are also called dollars. So, here is a sample of how much these other dollars will convert to PHP. There are actually many more countries, some even using USD, but I chose those where many Filipinos live and work. Canada: 1 CAD = 36.18 PHP Australia: 1 AUD = 34.33 PHP Brunei: 1 BND = 34.24 PHP Singapore: 1 SGD = 34.23 PHP New Zealand: 1 NZD = 31.65 PHP Hong Kong: 1 HKD = 6.05 PHP Taiwan: 1 TWD = 1.45 PHP Out of curiosity, I also checked what other countries use Peso and how much 1 Peso of their currency would convert to Philippine Peso. Argentina: 1 ARS = 3.30 PHP Mexico: 1 MXN = 2.58 PHP Uruguay: 1 UYU = 1.48 PHP Dominican Republic: 1 DOP = 1.02 PHP Chile: 1 CLP = 0.070 PHP Colombia: 1 COP = 0.016 PHP Cuba: Cuban Peso 1 CUP = 1.77 PHP Cuban Convertible Peso 1 CUC = 46.99 PHP Some people go to other countries to earn more, but everything in that country costs more, too. Some retire abroad so their pensions can go further, but it also means the services and amenities they're used to aren't available. Having the resources to spend equal time between two countries would be really nice.

Lucky are those US pensioners because when they retire here , they have a lot of money every month when they are converted to peso.

actually, i think it also depends on their health, lifestyle and if they're supporting other family members. yes, i have a relative who goes back to the us for medical checkups and treatments.

There are other countries which currency is called Dollar, Panama, Jamaica, Hong Kong, Taiwan. The Peso was the name given in Spain to the 8-royal coin (real de ocho). There were many more countries that used the peso in the past.

not that big of a difference yet when it comes to cost of living, what's expensive there - food, rent, transpo, clothes?

@Lucky15 maybe that's why i'm not suited for work abroad. i buy them if i really need them, so i'll probably end up deep in debt, then deported. hahaha!

It's confusing when different countries used the same name for their currencies, isn't it? Thanks for the info.

@hereandthere I'd just drop it off next time I was in town. Usually this was reserved for big purchases, like once I got give a ton of cash to go get some power tool, saved them a couple hundred on taxes, cant remember what it was, only that it cost a TON

it's good to hang on to other currencies in case you're going to need money for important expenses later on. they say money changers offer better rates than banks.
