So There Goes our Saturday Night.....

We had our Black Bart fireplace insert removed this morning and our chimney swept in preparation for a gas fireplace. An electrician and propane company will be here next week. As you can see, our fireplace opening is huge, and sucked the warm oil heat right up the chimney. The Black Bark was wonderful, but the blower broke and can't be replaced. Hence, a cleaner, new gas fireplace will be put in. I had a manicure and pedicure this afternoon in anticipation of going out to dinner with friends tonight. I had to cancel. We have no water!!!!! The water company is here trying to fix our problem. We need a new tank. I'm glad the pump and motor are okay, but this has been a week of watching $$$$$ fly out the window. I guess we'll be ordering dinner late tonight.

I love the ambiance of a fireplace. But, alas, the heat does go right up the chimney. We hope to one day have our own place and use a wood stove as a main heat source when we are home. Love the warmth of a wood fire.

I hope you get one in your own home. We put a wood burning stove in our other house. It heated one entire floor!

@ElusiveButterfly Tell me about it! Since our other broke, I thought it would be nice for Doodles in the spring and fall when it gets chilly. For me, too!!!!

Yeah, owning a home is a never ending money pit. It cost more than we wanted to spend, but at least we have our water back.

@fishtiger58 Yikes! I have no idea how many wires are behind our walls. That's my husband's department. Mine are the walls. Lol!

@DianneN It sure is, my house is 116 years old so you can imagine how much we spend on repairs. We just had the whole house rewired and it cost a ton. There were 4 different kinds of wiring in here which just amazed me. We feel so much safer now with all new wiring.

@kevin1877uk It was not as good as going to that restaurant, but I was so hungry by 9:22, that I would have eaten the carpet!

The need for a new tank is deja vu for us as we had to replace our hot water tank almost a year ago. Were you able to figure out what happened to cause the tank to stop working? I don't think that there is ever a good time for things like this to go out on us, hopefully this is the end of issues at your house.

@DianneN Thankfully its all fixed and now you won't have to give it a second thought. Its been a lot of years since I lived at home where, at that time, we had well water also. Its a lot different then being on a water line, somewhat more complicated. Dinner was late even for you wasn't it? I know that you eat later then we do.

We have well water, and it was the tank that holds it in a balloon. All is well. I took a wonderful shower and dinner was delivered at 9:22PM. I thought it funny that we were eating at the European dinner time.

@Juliaacv I wish we could have city water. It would solve a lot of problems. They only ran lines near our high school and elementary school. Those living along that route hooked up. Yes, we eat between 7:30 and 8:00 usually. Our friends were going to pick us up at 7:00 for 7:30 reservations. She texted me from the restaurant. They went anyway.

@ElizabethWallace Ours is very pure, but on the hard side. Therefore, we have a water softening system. We also have a separate system just for drinking and the ice maker in our refrigerator. It is 99.99% purified, so much so, that our drinking water can be used for kidney dialysis! It's cold and delicious. Good question!

@DianneN Wow. Then you would know the answer to something I have wondered about for years. When water comes from a well, is it treated at all?

It's frustrating when at the last minute we would cancel a date because of one reason or another . Though , at least you are already prepared for that if ever it will already materialize because you already had your manicure and pedicure .

There is always something to put our money on when we have a house. We need to have a huge tree removed in our back yard. We just got a new furnace and on and on.

Thank you! It is a broom that we used to sweep ashes from the Black Bark. We're giving our fireplace tools away, since we won't be needing them anymore with the gas fireplace.

These old-type fires are lovely to sit by but they're not very efficient. I don't suppose you'll even miss it once your new one is in.
