Statue Study – The Face Of Wigan

This quite large statue in the middle of the ‘Weind’ shopping district of Wigan looks like it belongs on the cover of a Pink Floyd rock music album. Many are divided in opinion over the £80,000 work but I love it. It could really be labelled the face of any town it could be placed in though. It really has no direct association with Wigan.
I associate Wigan with George Orwell, Gerrard Winstanley, and George Formby. The Face looks like none of them, but more akin to something computer generated but frozen in steel. It is a very striking work of modern art. It is eighteen feet high, and the work of sculptor, Rick Kirby.

This face reminds me of a Star Trek episode. Don't recall the name but the people were clothes in plane cloth and with not expression what so ever.

I think it's a pretty cool sculpture. It would look kind of cool in front of the library in Downtown Denver.
