My Love Of Maps

I love maps, including maps and street guides to places I have already been, street guides, ordinance survey maps and railway maps. It is great to see the places I’ve been and still hope to visit too. I prefer paper maps to Google maps, or sat-nav images.
There is something very satisfying about reaching a destination by map rather than being told where to go.
The map in the photo is a rail chart promoting the railways network of North West England in the Edwardian era. It is still on display at Manchester’s Victoria Station.

@boiboing fun to see old maps though many can be very accurate too

It looked like something from the Edwardian Age. I wondered. How cool!

I would rather use a map. I became quite good at reading them when I was in the Army.

Im not very good at reading maps soi never care about them.About getting to a place with a map only, i once went for a job interview, after looking for the place for over 1 hour, i called to ask exactly where they were.
When they directed em how to get there, l was surprised, the place was just 5 minutes from my home.I do walk without looking street names.

I also like maps. Tracing routes that will take you from one side of the country to another. Or like you, looking at train routes and seeing how stepping into your local can take you someplace far.
