Three cops to one old lady?

United States
May 15, 2016 6:11pm CST
On the way home from work we passed by three cop cars, one was unmarked. They are really really enforcing the speed limit here in NC. Anyway, we passed by the three cars and the one car they had stopped held an elderly driver. She was leaning down, as if she had dropped something or was searching for something when we passed by. I was just curious as to why they needed three cops there for one elderly lady. I thought perhaps she was injured, or her car had broken down? However, the unmarked police car gave me the impression that it was a speeding ticket. Why three responders then? One (the last) drove up as we were passing by. Curious

Hopefully she was not an elder lady who is on a robbing spree. I saw one that was old on the news like over 80 years and she's known for stealing jewelry. She was told if she stops they'll let her free. They did and she went back to it! It's crazy but I doubt she did anything wrong. They do not need 3 cars (2 at most) but during broad daylight one should be enough!

@ScribbledAdNauseum Making money for her family or maybe her sons or daughters / grandkids are in the business But looks can be deceiving. Regardless I hope it was nothing major though!!

Maybe her hands were registered as lethal weapons and they had to call for back-up. LOL.

For some reason this reminds me of a joke I once heard. Something to do with an elderly woman and her insinuating she had a weapon in the vehicle. I forget the punch line.

If it was a speeding ticket, I guess one car would be more than enough.

I can see maybe two but three is a bit overkill. I started to think maybe she was injured when the third pulled up. THey drove off shortly afterwards though.

I do not believe it was a speeding ticket, possibly she was not feeling well and this is the reason why three cars came.

That crossed my mind but then I imagine they'd have, at the very least, escorted her home. She was able to drive off on her own, and none of the three police cars followed her.

In England we are more likely to be caught speeding by a camera, than an actual policeman, as I know to my cost.

We have cameras here to catch speeders, but the cops are also very hands on. There are areas here, within five miles of where I live, that the cops like to sit to wait for speeders.

That is a little crazy. But from what i have heard the speed limit thing was just a hokes. I was wondering how they were going to keep people at the posted speed limit.

A Hoax? I don't know about all that. I still see under cover cops out, more so then I have in the past. US 52 had a lot of them towards the beginning of this enforcement.

@Jdaw1985 Well I guess they would know better than any of us. It doesn't explain the increase in tickets, atleast over that one weekend then.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah idk but from what my hubby was told by a cop was that it was a hoax and that it is still the 5 over is ok.

It appeared as if the first had called for back up. Obviously I am not sure. The fact that she may have been under the weather crossed my mind, but then none of the cops followed her home as I imagined they would had she been ill.

She must be one difficult old lady.

I don't think that was it at all. She was in her car the whole time. The responding officers weren't even surrounding her car.

Yes, without being familiar with their policies, one can only guess.

NC is a concealed carry state. Reaching around in the car would make any officer nervous.

The first responder was talking to the second responder at the second responder's car. The elderly lady was reaching around in her car whilst they chatted. Had they thought she was concealing a weapon? They'd be surrounding her car I imagine. We were at Mcdonalds when they drove off. All three officers stayed behind, but pulled off to the side. I guess to make their report.
