My Hero

Canada

He was born in 1941 in Newark New Jersey. My Brother was the first born to my parents. What my parents were doing in New Jersey, I have no idea. My Dad was an Optician, an eye glasses maker. He was probably doing that in 1941 in Newark New Jersey. Mom was a teacher. By the time I came around Dad was working in Schenectady, New York. I showed up 1945. Then five years later my sister Elaine joined us. When I was a toddler I had a cute curl on the top of my head that everyone, even strangers would say ...Oh, how sweet! I think my brother got tired of hearing about that... My mother found my curl with her sewing scissors under the dinning room table. I wonder how that happened? We were a happy family that left the city and moved to the country in 1953. My dad continued to make glasses and had his own business by then and when my sister went to school, mom went back to teaching. My brother and I had a love hate relationship as I'm guessing all siblings do. Later, my sister and I had that love hate thing going too. But if the truth be known we would have done anything for each other if needed. As teenagers, we resented each other on a daily basis but when I was a late teen and he was in his twenties, when some boys were giving me a hard time, he made sure that stopped. He was my Hero. All three of us married. My sister and I moved away but my brother stayed and built a home on some land by my parents. As adults we were all fast friends. We would get together every summer , visiting our parents while they were alive and our big brother and his family up the road. On Sunday my big brother took his usual daily nap but he didn't wake up. We are heart broken to know we will never see him again. He was 74.

I am so sorry that your Hero passed. You have such fond and sweet memories of him, I hope that you can hold on to those in the days and weeks to come. What a good way to go, in his sleep. Great big hugs to you, I will keep you in my thoughts.

OMG, I am so sad to read this. I didn't expect it from the start of the post. My sincere condolences. My big brother had Open Heart surgery yesterday morning and he is fine. Same age as yours. It is good that your brother was not sick, so he didn't suffer.

Oh Marilyn I'm so sorry. I suppose it was a good way for him to go as he wouldn't know anything about it, but so devastating for you.

We were left behind without a word, but it is a good way to go, I think. He will be missed and our families are gathering together this weekend. Thank you for your kind words.

@jaboUK My brother could use a real snow shovel, I had the coal shovel...or a small broom, not sure what I'm holding.

That is so sad, and must have been a terrible shock. And 74 is still quite young. I am so sorry to hear of your loss. At least your brother did not suffer a long illness but was his usual self to the last, which must be the best way for him.

Im so really sorry for your loss.my sincere Condolence. Please be glad he did not suffer,l have seen people suffer until you ask why them, what did they do wrong? so your brother went the right way. Laughed when you said your hair landed under the dining taable, that was real mean, l could have cried a bucket, im sure you did. Be strong, your brother has fought the last enemy and won.
