Cycling with a New Toy

Slough Arm Canal

With a week of a bit of cycling and lots of walking, I took yesterday off with little activity beyond a slow stroll to the shops. I really do have a plan to be more active, and Thursday's day off was part of that. Today was a day for pedalling. With a sunny morning, I spent as much time as I could off road enjoying the greenery and on the leg home, I followed the canal - popping into the supermarket. It also gave me the first opportunity to try out the new heart rate sensor, which links to the little GPS system and I can see how fast the old ticker is going on some of those climbs. Following @teamfreak16 advise and example, I have started logging these stats online. All very exciting, but I am sure it will wear off soon enough!

So how fast was the old ticker going?

I think it hit 153, just as I got to the top of middling long climb

That looks like a far pleasanter ride than on a street! Lovely scenery rather than concrete and asphalt.

I am also planning to be more active. Summer is the right season to spend more time outside and move. I do not cycle, but I walk a lot.

Apparently it takes six weeks for a new habit to form. That looks a lovely cycle path along the canal. Knowing me and my (lack of) cycling skills I'd probably end up in it. :)

@Ronrybs I didn't learn to ride a bike till I was well into my teens and I've never been much good. Usually whatever I look at I run into so it has to be total concentration when I ride. No time for looking round!

It's good information to know. It definitely can't hurt to have some heart information along with you on your rides!

@Ronrybs I'm sure you will! I'll be waiting to see how you do over time!

Over time I should see an improvement with a lower rate over the same route, or at least that's the theory!

Boy, those GPS systems do everything, don't they.

They certainly do and with all this cloud logging, all the data is saved for later stats crunching. Next ride is planned for Sunday, not sure where to visit
