There are around 24 States that have the 3 Strikes and your out law. There are some exceptions to this law. In Caliornia they have seen an increase in the number of inmates in prison. Generally the law says you will spend 25 years to life if you have multiple violent felony convictions. Will these people be freed because of overcrowding?

I think that in the U.S. they make too much money with sending people in prisons, even some judges are into it.

@marlina Who is making money sending people to prison? What judges?

@marlina I don't deny that there's some validity to your statement. The U.S has far too many people in prison. But I think some fact would lend some weight to the comment. Without anything to back it up, it sounds like a blanket indictment.

Prisons have become big business in some areas. I doubt they will let too many out.

@celticeagle It seems some States are doing just that and letting some prisoners out because of overcrowding.

@Marcyaz ....The whole prison system is idiotic. Overcrowding is really becoming an issue.

I know here in California they have let some out because of crowding but they also have built more prisons too.

I think some of these things are unfair. I think perhaps what the three things are, and how close they are together, and other factors should play a part on this. What if someone hides stolen property on your land, and it gets found, and you cant prove it isn't yours, but they cant exactly tie you do the thefts either, but still you were "in possession", this one? Should never be a three strike thing.

@Jessicalynnt I don't think that would be a three strikes your out as it is not a violent crime to have stolen property.

@Marcyaz I still would hope there are some checks on these things, like perhaps how many years apart the crimes are, and were their other times. And 2 bigs and 1 little, well the little aught not count towards it, maybe, dunno, seems a bit open for abuse. I think that system needs an overhaul too. I dont think you should get a thing extra unless you work for it.

I think the three-strikes laws may be modified in some states. It has caused some people to get life in prison for a series of relatively small crimes. They need to clarify the types of crimes that need to be included in the three strikes.

@DeborahDiane I imagine like all things some need clarification for the three strikes.

@VivaLaDani13 Releasing prisoners because of overcrowding is strange reason. What was the point of putting them behind bars then?

I think they won't be freed because of the overcrowding issue. Transfer to another prison?

Seems they are all overcrowded so that wouldn't work. Any other ideas?

Good question. Chances are they'll build another prison at taxpayer expense.

@just4him Thanks, probably they will build more prisons at our expense. There goes more of our money.

It could be that those with lesser offense will be released or pardoned to lessen congestion, or the state will build additional prison cells to accommodate so many law offenders.

Are there types of offenses that count? Life for shop lifting or littering sounds a bit harsh

@Ronrybs My posts says Violent crimes not shop lifting or littering. Those are no violent crimes and generally not felonys.
